On Friday, we welcomed our research participants back for our second obesity workshop, where we delved deeper into the social and emotional aspects of their experiences. It's fair to say that at times, it was difficult to hear about the lived experiences our amazing participants have, and often still do, go through. The bravery and resilience shown by the participants were commendable. It's no easy task to come to a workshop and be vulnerable, but everyone did so in the hope of making a difference to the lives of others suffering with obesity. Our next and final workshop in this programme focuses on the impact of obesity on workforce productivity, through the lens of the patient. 🔈 We are inviting individuals with a UK address, aged 16 years and above and from Black ethnic backgrounds, such as Black African, Black Caribbean and Black British, to participate in our NIHR BioResource study. People living with a health condition, and those who are not, are invited to participate in the IBHO BioResource. We are also inviting people with a confirmed diagnosis of Sickle Cell or Thalassaemia to join, regardless of ethnic background. Participants will receive £15 payment and reimbursement for their travel expenses (these are capped). If you decide to join, you will donate a blood or saliva sample and be asked to complete a health and lifestyle questionnaire. We will also ask you to fill in a consent form that describes how your data and samples will be used and allows us to match you to specific research studies. We kicked off a series of community workshops yesterday with our first one focusing on obesity. It was facilitated by Hodgkinson McCambridge in conjunction with The Obesity Institute at Leeds Beckett University. The workshop aimed to gain insights from people with lived experience of obesity about the relationship between obesity and productivity. These workshops are designed to draw on lived experience, working with individuals and communities directly affected by the issues addressed in the workshops, to better understand the impact and help create meaningful solutions. A big thank you to the participants for sharing such personal and emotional details that will allow us to gain a better insight into the levels of support available for those impacted by obesity and where there are gaps.
