A good report out today from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and Jeegar Kakkad/Tone Langengen which mentions Holtec's planned £1.5bn SMR factory investment in South Yorkshire as well as ways to speed up the delivery of SMRs in the UK - particularly around regulatory alignment which is crucial. If the UK is to become an AI powerhouse, it needs SMRs and large scale nuclear to be delivered and enabled at pace. https://lnkd.in/dCD2jM9v

If we are to reach net zero while creating highly-skilled well-paid jobs around the country we’ve got to radically simplify and speed up our planning and regulatory regimes. Great to hear from the Chancellor and other Ministers at the International Investment Summit yesterday in London to discuss our plans for a South Yorkshire SMR factory, 70% UK content, export markets and how we will bring best practice from Korea, the US, Japan and UK together to deliver SMRs. Holtec are 100% committed to delivering clean, safe and reliable energy in the UK while creating local jobs and skilled workers.

As reported by The New York Times recently, colleagues in the USA are planning to do something that has never been done before - restart a nuclear power plant. Thanks to $1.5bn of finance from the US Department of Energy and the State of Michigan this 800-megawatt facility will be brought back to life with plans to add two of Holtec's SMR-300 reactors to the site - doubling carbon-free generation capacity. https://lnkd.in/er-JWxms
