Proactive cancer screening is a new and exciting category of care that is emerging in veterinary medicine. According to the AVMA, approximately 1 in 4 dogs will develop cancer at some point in their lives. That rate of cancer incidence increases significantly after the age of 10, as 50% of older patients are impacted by cancer. This recent article from DVM360 reveals how veterinarians are taking a new, proactive approach beyond visual examination and palpation to screen for cancer, helping pet owners move beyond “wait and see” and buy-in to the next diagnostic steps in addressing cancer earlier.
