Celebrating the Charities We Supported in 2024! This January, we’re dedicating the month to recognising and raising awareness for the incredible charities we proudly supported last year. First up is #Juniors in #Hamilton, in South Lanarkshire Council, a fantastic small charity with huge ambitions and an even bigger impact. #Juniors works tirelessly to support families facing personal challenges, from the cost-of-living crisis to other urgent needs like food, toiletries and warm clothing as well as providing a safe space for children and their parents/ carers to come and visit. Lesley Robertson and her amazing team are truly the glue that holds the South Lanarkshire community together. We’re proud to shine a light on Juniors and other incredible organisations making a real difference across our communities. Rebecca has been a tireless advocate for girls and women across multiple sectors within the business world, and particularly within construction. Her passion for breaking down barriers and fostering inclusion makes her the perfect fit to work alongside our valued partners on this important programme. From promoting opportunities for women in construction to championing workforce diversification, Rebecca’s impact is felt far and wide. The 'Girls into Construction' programme is a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation of women in the industry. By engaging young women at a critical stage in their education, we’re helping to build a more diverse and inclusive construction workforce for the future. Initiatives like this are vital in ensuring that the industry reflects the communities it serves. Girls from Coatbridge High and St Ambrose in Coatbridge have been involved in the ten-week programme and have been exceptional, demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment, and great potential for future roles in the sector. At Hub South West, we’re committed to supporting programmes that promote diversity, equity, and opportunity. By partnering with Kier and North Lanarkshire Council on 'Girls into Construction,' we’re taking a meaningful step towards a more inclusive construction sector. hub South West Scotland has partnered with @EMS, Equitix Management Services Limited (EMS) and Be Be Someone's Santa (SCIO) to support children across Scotland this festive season. Be Someone's Santa (SCIO) is a small organisation dedicated to spreading joy during the holidays. Together with our partners and friends, we have contributed to delivering 206 gifts to children across Scotland. By coming together, we aim to spread warmth and kindness throughout our communities, ensuring that no one is forgotten this Christmas. Here's a message from Be Someone’s Santa: "Over the last 2 weeks, all of your gifts have been getting secretly sneaked into houses for parents to wrap up and get ready for Christmas morning. This year, with your support, we have managed to gift for 3,369 children - our highest number yet. With the funds we have raised, we have been able to provide £3,000 worth of food vouchers (so far) to help families eat over the Christmas holidays. We are almost at the finish line for this year. Please remember when you wake up on Christmas morning, that somewhere in Glasgow, there is a child opening a gift that they only have because of you. Don't underestimate the impact of this - one of our pledgers told me of a gift she received as a child when in a difficult situation and that she remembers to this day how it felt to get that gift and know that someone was thinking of her. You all have my eternal gratitude for your generosity and for sharing and getting your businesses involved. I am emotional and overwhelmed - Merry Christmas to all when it comes." hub South West Scotland is proud to support Kier Construction and North Lanarkshire Council with the joint "Girls into Construction" programme — a vital initiative, inspiring young women to explore careers in construction. The construction industry has long been seen as a male-dominated field, but change is happening. By promoting gender diversity, we open the door to fresh perspectives, innovative thinking, and a stronger, more inclusive workforce. Diverse teams drive better decision-making, creativity, and collaboration — essential elements for building the sustainable communities of the future. Girls from Coatbridge High School and St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, took part in the pilot, which has proved to be a resounding success. The programme introduces young women to the wide array of roles available in construction, from design and engineering to project management and on-site operations. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and site visits, participants gain insight into the opportunities and career pathways within the sector. The final stretch of this project will be held tomorrow at Kier’s offices, where the girls will present their findings to a panel. This marks a key milestone in the programme, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their learning, build confidence, and gain valuable presentation experience. We’re thrilled to share that the Dumfries High School project has reached a major milestone. Following the recent topping out ceremony, the building has now reached the crucial stage of the structural steel package being complete. This marks significant progress as we move closer to delivering a state-of-the-art facility that will bring lasting benefits to the local community within Dumfries and Galloway Council. This new school is about more than just education — it’s about creating a space that will sit at the heart of the community. Designed to inspire learning and personal growth, it will provide students with modern classrooms, cutting-edge technology, and spaces to support a variety of activities. Outside of school hours, the building will also offer flexible spaces for community use, creating opportunities for events, clubs, and initiatives that bring people together and galvanise the local community. This project has been made possible through the hard work and collaboration of our brilliant partners: Morgan Sindall Construction, Ryder Architecture, Woolgar Hunter Engineers, Ribka Fox Consulting LLC, Turner & Townsend and The Glenmhor Partnership LLP. Together, we’re not just constructing a school — we’re creating a space where everyone in the community can thrive.
