  • A day in the life of a police officer can be extremely busy, with high volumes of calls coming in which can take them from one end of their local area to another, and from the coast to the countryside, and everywhere in between. These calls are often to live ongoing incidents, which our officers will be dispatched to with other teams to deal with the situation and provide support. Now that applications are open to become one of our next police constables, we’ve spoken to one of our officers based in North East Lincolnshire to get an insight into some of the jobs he can be called to during one of his shifts. He said: “Some days, we can be dispatched to an emergency in relation to a mental health issue with another double crew unit. “Normally in that situation, we would stay to support them through that, however we can then receive an incoming emergency call from a distressed victim, meaning we have to leave our colleagues there so we could respond. “We can sometimes be called all the way from Cleethorpes to Immingham and upon arrival, we can often be met with quite calm scenes. Even if we are responding immediately from one case to another, the distance in travel can quite often mean we arrive to a completely different scene to what was happening even five minutes before we arrived. “After talking people involved in incidents we face, we might take a someone into custody, but we don’t always need to slap handcuffs on everyone. Quite often it’s like that – you can speak to people in a certain way, get on their side and sometimes, there isn’t a necessity to put cuffs on someone. This job is all about communication – so if you think you’ve got what it takes, apply!” Find out more and apply today: #TeamHumberside #Recruiting #JoinUs #Policing #Career #PoliceOfficer #Investigation #MeetTheTeam #BehindTheScenes #ApplyNow

  • This week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed that Humberside Police area has seen decreases in most crime categories according to the latest recorded crime figures. Deputy Chief Constable David Marshall said: “The figures released today highlight the continued hard work and significant efforts of our staff across all areas of policing, to make our communities safer. “Covering a 12-month period, up to September 2024, our force area has recorded a crime reduction over double that of the national average, with Humberside Police delivering a 6.3% reduction in recorded crime against the national average reduction of 3.0%. "The force has also seen significant reductions in the most serious offences including homicides, recording three offences in the 12-month period. Additionally, the force area has seen a 3.7% decrease in recorded sexual offences, in contrast to a national increase of 4.3%. “Through implementing proactive measures and the development of a serious crime strategy, we continue to drive sustained reductions that are evident in the recent records. “We have also seen significant progress in other areas, with a 26.9% decrease in the number of public order offences, which is almost double in comparison to the national decrease of 14.4% percent. “Through effectively embedding national framework and initiatives, we are committed to reducing crime rates and improving investigations as well as the support and service we provide victims. “Targeted and tactical crime prevention measures have contributed to reductions in recorded vehicle and bicycle thefts as well as arson and criminal damage offences. “Whilst we have seen an increase in possession of weapons offences and drugs offences, I’d like to reassure our communities that these are marginal increases reflected by proactive policing, including intensified foot patrols and stop and search activities in hot-spot areas. Summarising the report, Deputy Chief Constable Marshall said: “Despite the force tackling some of the largest and most complex investigations in our history, demanding significant investment of resources, the dedication and professionalism of our staff has delivered these encouraging results. “We remain committed to protecting our communities, disrupting criminality, and driving further improvements. While we celebrate this progress, we are not complacent and will continue striving to make our force area safer for everyone.” Police and Crime Commissioner, Jonathan Evison said: “‘As the elected representative to hold the force to account, I am delighted with the latest performance information shared today. “It is of no surprise to me that the force continues to achieve these results, demonstrating their commitment to my Police and Crime Plan aims of having Safer Communities. • 📣 Applications to join us as a Special Constable close Sunday 2 February! You’re wanting to become a Special Constable alongside your career vocation, whether that be as a teacher, working for the NHS, a bus driver, bank manager, wind turbine technician, stay at home parent, business owner, manager, student, and the list goes on. You want to give back to your community because you live and work in that same community, and after all, you just want to make it a safer and stronger place to be. You take the plunge, put yourself out there, and start applying, but then you find out that you must commit to fifteen weeks of training on evenings and weekends. But there’s a reason for this, and it’s extremely important for those joining our Special Constabulary to receive the same level of training as our regular officers, not only for the safety of the public, but for your own safety too. As a Special Constable you will have the same powers and responsibilities as our regular officers, attending the same jobs, and dealing with the same people who are often at their most vulnerable by the time we get to them. We’ve been listening to the Specials who have recently been through the training and have since been one of the first forces to adopt a more hybrid model. This model of learning means we can be far more flexible in our approach and ensure that those who are passionate about serving and volunteering their own time to give back to our communities are given the opportunity and support along the way to do just that. We caught up with Sergeant David Selby who delivers this training to find out more: https://lnkd.in/e_7RzRmX 📣 Applications close Sunday 2 February!
