We are Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England. Our more than 15,000 staff provide acute and specialist care for over 1.3 million patients a year from our five hospitals in west London – St Mary’s, Hammersmith, Charing Cross, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea and Western Eye. We also offer private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all our sites. We came together in a formal partnership with our three neighbouring acute trusts in 2022 to form the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, to make the most effective use of our collective resources to provide better care, for more people, more fairly. We live by our values of being kind, expert, collaborative and aspirational and as well as our vision of better health, for life. A decade before Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin at St Mary’s Hospital, brother and sister Dora and Leonard Colebrook pioneered the use of Prontosil red – an antibacterial that became widely available years before penicillin could be used. Fast-forward to present times and their legacy is alive and thriving through the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre Colebrook research laboratory at Charing Cross Hospital. This facility provides state-of-the-art microbiology research space to support translational research in antimicrobial resistance – one of the biggest threats facing global society today.
