Are you a specialist contractor interested in restoring #BirnbeckPier in #WestonsuperMare? 👀 📣 This is your opportunity to express an interest in working on the pier structure itself, and playing a key part in this unique heritage project. The Grade II* Listed pier structure consists of 15 sets of cast iron trestles, topped with a wooden deck, bench seating and lighting. In a contract opportunity published today, a contractor is being sought to: 🧰 make good the pier trestles 🧰 replace the pier lattice and associated structural beams 🧰 install new pier bracing, a new pier deck, new bench seating and handrails, and lighting to the pier bridge structure 🧰 provide service ducts essential for utilities on the island. Birnbeck Pier landside buildings contract opportunity - deadline extended 📣 We’ve received a lot of interest from contractors interested in working on the #BirnbeckPier restoration in #WestonsuperMare. Since we launched the opportunity to work on the landside phase of this unique heritage project four weeks ago, a number of potential contractors have shown interest. To give bidders more time, we’ve decided to extend the opportunity deadline. 📅 The opportunity will now close at 1pm on Tuesday 7 January. This contract opportunity is being advertised on the Supplying the South West procurement website (reference: DN740944) https://lnkd.in/dvzRvhZ We recommended potential bidders book a place on the site visit taking place on Wednesday 20 November. Details are available in the tender pack. The contract includes: 🏠 the restoration of the Pier Master’s Cottage, including reinstating the bell tower and creating a new building to the north to create space for a café intended to open to the public all year round 🧰 external repairs to the other landside buildings known as Pier View, the old shell shop, and the South Toll House 🚾 the creation of other visitor facilities, including toilets 💡 provision of essential services and infrastructure to the whole site – the landside buildings, the island and the pier itself – including work underground on water and sewage pumps, and installation of a new fit-for-purpose electricity substation. Planning permission for this phase of the project was unanimously granted by North Somerset Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee in August.
