📢Financed emissions are a vital metric for assessing portfolio climate impact — but when used in isolation they do not tell the full story. Through the Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF) 2.0, we have highlighted why a narrow focus on "reducing financed emissions" can lead to unintended outcomes. Instead, NZIF 2.0 emphasises "financing reduced emissions", supporting high-impact investments in climate solutions and aligning portfolio with Paris Agreement's goal.📈 Mahesh Roy, our Investor Strategies Programme Director, dives deeper into the nuances of financed emissions and how investors can uncover high-impact opportunities while mitigating the financial risks of climate change.💸🌱 📜Read our latest insight: https://lnkd.in/gfGizsBb #FinancedEmissions #NetZero #NZIF #ClimateSolutions

"2024 saw almost half of the world go to the polls in ‘the year of elections’, with the policy implications set to be felt for years to come. Whatever these implications are, one certainty is that the energy transition is happening – in fact, it is accelerating in many cases in line with the economic rationale. "Against this backdrop our mission remains unchanged: to bring the investment community together in making significant progress towards a net zero and climate resilient future by 2030." Stephanie Pfeifer OBE, IIGCC CEO, and Faith Ward, Chair of the Board and Chief Responsible Investment Officer at Brunel Pension Partnership Limited, reflect on 2024 and outline our four strategic priorities for the year ahead. ⬇ Read more below from our Annual Report 2024, 'Creating Change'. #NetZero #Nature #AdaptationResilience #EmergingMarketsDevelopingEconomies https://lnkd.in/eZ42ynhG

🚨 New IIGCC Paper Alert — Completing the Picture: Assessing Utilities' Natural Gas Targets I'm excited to share our paper proposing a methodology to assess natural gas emission targets of energy utilities. This fills a critical gap by complementing existing frameworks that primarily address utilities' emissions from electricity generation. Developed by Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) with input from lead investors in the Climate Action 100+ Utilities Working Group, this methodology aims to support investor engagement and transition risk assessments in the utilities sector. 📊 What’s Inside: - Explanation of how a suitable pathway can be constructed from scenario data and how utilities' sold gas targets could be assessed using the absolute emissions contraction approach. - An application of the methodology to 11 European Climate Action 100+ energy utilities, with anonymized alignment results. - Analysis of challenges, including base-year sensitivity and the use of regional vs. global benchmarks. IIGCC members can access the full report (link in comments). We welcome any additional feedback on the methodology by 23 January 2025. Your insights will help us strengthen this tool, ensuring it’s robust and effective for utility sector engagement. Many thanks to Dan Gardiner, Ashley Thomas, Xander Urbach, Tess Bremer, Will Farrell, Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) and others for their inputs in developing the paper! #NetZero #InvestorEngagement #Utilities #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #NaturalGas

🎬 And... Action! Stephanie Pfeifer OBE, IIGCC CEO, joined Adam Gillett, Sustainability Lead at Railpen, to discuss the Net Zero investment Framework (NZIF) with Asset TV UK. 🌍 Stephanie explained the ethos behind NZIF, now the most widely used guidance by investors who have set a net zero commitment, as well as what's changed in the updated NZIF 2.0, released earlier this year. Adam described how Railpen has adopted the guidance to support its net zero strategy, as well as benefits of the investor-led approach to our guidance. They then share their advice for any investor considering their first steps on net zero. 📺 Thank you to the team at Asset TV for hosting the discussion. https://lnkd.in/ghQxpXiM #NetZero #NZIF #Investing

✅ We concluded our 2024 AGM yesterday evening, celebrating a year filled with a number of milestones: 80 events, 40 resources, and more than 380k website visits. Thank you to our members for your support and for helping to make this possible. 4️⃣ This year, our focus has centred on four strategic priorities — net zero, nature, adaptation and resilience, and emerging markets and developing markets. These priorities will continue to guide our efforts in 2025. 🎙️Reflecting on the last 12 months and looking ahead, our CEO, Stephanie Pfeifer OBE said: “As the transition to a decarbonised global economy takes shape, the competition is on. How investors navigate this is up to them – but for IIGCC, we will continue to provide the tools, resources, frameworks, initiatives and more to support our members.” 🤝 Stephanie was joined by IIGCC Board Chair Faith Ward and board member Bruce Duguid. Faith noted, ‘Climate is not just the challenge of our lifetime; it is the opportunity of our lifetime. And for me, IIGCC has and will continue to play a hugely valuable role in supporting investors to realise this opportunity.’ 🎙️ Emmanuel Faber, Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), delivered a keynote address on the benefits of a global standard for sustainability disclosures. 🧑🤝🧑The AGM also featured engaging panel discussions on integrating nature into climate action agendas and leveraging transition finance and climate solutions to achieve net zero goals. Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the minister of ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention of France and Ana Toni, Secretary for Climate Change, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Brazil, also addressed our members. 🙏 We look forward to more events with our members in the new year. Thank you. #NetZero #SustainableFinance #ClimateAction
