🔍 Your questions answered: What is a faraday cage? In digital forensics, preserving #evidence integrity is crucial. Faraday cages block external signals (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular), preventing remote tampering of seized devices 📱 Why are faraday cages so important? 🔹 Secures evidence – Shields devices from remote access, preventing data wiping or alteration. 🔹 Prevents tampering – Maintains the device’s original state for accurate forensic analysis. 🔹 Usability for law enforcement – Ensures safe storage and transport of seized electronics. 🔹 Ensures forensic integrity – Prevents external interference during investigations. Faraday cages are a key tool in ensuring justice in the digital age. Stay tuned for more digital forensic insights! #digitalforensics #lawenforcement #forensicscience

📱 We're frequently asked to provide an expert report in respect of Snapchat. Often, we're asked to describe: ▪️The self-deleting function of messages ▪️How groups are formed ▪️How long a Snap would remain on a device if it wasn't read ▪️What is stored on Snapchat's servers ▪️How long Snapchat retains data 🕵️ For one case, our Digital Investigations Unit investigated two offenders who used Snapchat to communicate with each other. A forensic examination of the offenders' mobile phones led to the retrieval of #communications sent between them. 🔍 A specific communication of interest was sent by one offender to the other: a photo with a caption written across it. The first offender claimed that they only sent the photo without a caption. The second offender claimed that they received the Snap with the caption included, before taking a screenshot. 📝 We carried out testing and concluded that the first offender had sent the photo with the caption. We produced an expert report which was presented as #evidence to the court. ✉️ To find out more about our services, get in touch with our team at sales@intaforensics.com. #digitalinvestigation #socialmedia #socialmediainvestigation #criminalcase #expertreport #forensicreport

🔍 Has your client been charged with a cyber crime? As #digitalevidence becomes central in criminal cases, knowing how to challenge it is crucial. To convict, the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. These defences can cast doubt on their case: 🧠 Lack of intent: Many cyber crimes require intentional actions. Showing you didn’t knowingly upload malware, for example, can weaken the prosecution’s argument. ✅ Consent: If you had permission to access a system, claims of unauthorised access fall apart. 🕵 Forensic flaws: Digital forensics isn’t perfect. Pointing out flaws in data recovery or analysis can be a strong defence. 😶🌫️ Alibi/mistaken identity: Proving who used a device is often tricky. Evidence showing others had access can create reasonable doubt. In cyber crime cases, the right #defence and expert #forensicanalysis can make all the difference. Through utilisation of exacting forensic tools, our experts can analyse and recover key evidential data that can prove potentially critical in investigations. ✉️ For help with your case, get in touch with our team today at sales@intaforensics.com. #cyber #digitalforensics #legaldefence #cybersecurity #forensicscience #criminalcases

💭 Just how prevalent are deepfakes on dating apps? Recent insights from Sumsub reveal that: 👉 75% of users have encountered deepfakes 👉 19% have been personally deceived 👉 22% know someone misled by AI-generated content Deepfake technology, which once displayed noticeable flaws such as poor lip-syncing, is advancing rapidly. Today, AI tools can generate highly convincing, original images—making detection increasingly difficult 🔍 Unlike traditional catfishing scams, where stolen images can be identified through reverse image searches, deepfakes are entirely synthetic, leaving no digital trace. This poses a significant challenge for fraud prevention and identity verification 😶🌫️ As these threats escalate, it is imperative for platforms and users to stay vigilant. Strengthening verification processes and educating communities on emerging digital risks will be critical to maintaining trust and safety in online interactions. What are your thoughts on the future of identity verification in digital platforms? The UK judiciary has issued new guidance to help coroners obtain information related to social media use when investigating deaths 🔍 From April 1, 2024, the Online Safety Act 2023 empowers Ofcom to request information from social media platforms, particularly in cases involving a child's death 📱 Coroners will gain access to crucial details like content viewed, interactions, and shared posts—offering clearer insights into online activity before death 💡 This is a key step in ensuring #digitalevidence is considered in death investigations, raising wider discussions on online safety, platform responsibility, and safeguarding vulnerable users. What happens during an investigation when critical messaging apps are deleted? 📱 In a family law case, our team overcame two-factor authentication barriers and worked with telecom providers to reactivate a SIM card, unlocking crucial WhatsApp and Messenger data stored in the cloud ☁️ We spoke to our expert Rick Yeomans, Senior R&D Analyst, who shared "Ultimately, once we can access the data, we generate a report to analyse what information is present before us. Technology has come a long way and you may be surprised to hear how much data is now available for analysis." Our investigators and social media experts have a vast amount of knowledge around digital media investigations involving social media applications and are able to provide expert advice in this complex area. ✉️ To find out more about our services, get in touch with our team today at sales@intaforensics.com #familylaw #digitalevidence #forensicscience #socialmedia #digitalinvestigation #2FA #MFA
