How can geomembranes help in waterproofing pumped storage schemes? 🌊🔍 A geomembrane is a synthetic, impermeable sheet that controls the movement of liquids and gases in a structure, system, or project. Geomembrane lining systems can be used to waterproof any of the structures that make up pumped storage schemes. Learn more about their benefits in pumped storage hydropower by reading Carpi Tech’s blog - https://lnkd.in/exNw4q7Q Carpi Tech are sponsoring the Pumped Storage: Powering Australia’s Energy Future session in Brisbane on 25th February. Our mission is to advance sustainable hydropower, building knowledge on its role in energy, water & climate solutions.
About us
Our mission is to advance sustainable hydropower by building and sharing knowledge on its role in renewable energy systems, responsible freshwater management and climate change solutions. The world is facing a water and energy crisis. Around the globe, 1.1 billion people do not have access to clean water, while 1.2 billion live without access to electricity. The dominance of fossil fuels in the global energy supply drives climate change, exacerbating these problems. With the global demand for energy expected to increase by up to 61 per cent by 2050, the world must look towards a sustainable, renewable mix of energy sources. Hydropower, the world’s largest source of renewable electricity, has an increasingly important role to play as part of a mixed energy portfolio in adapting to climate change. Development is challenging on many fronts. While the way forward for hydropower must be economically and technically robust, its footprint must be one that respects the environment and makes people’s lives better. Our vision is a world where water and energy services are delivered to all in a sustainable way.

We hosted a webinar today to discuss IHA's Pumped Storage Policy Toolkit, a critical framework for unlocking the potential of pumped storage projects worldwide. At the heart of this toolkit is a call for long-term collaboration between governments and the private sector—essential for these lifetime infrastructure projects. The toolkit lays out: ✅ Policy recommendations for decision-makers ✅ Innovative solutions for overcoming barriers to implementation ✅ Country-specific pumped storage targets and applications While significant progress has been made, more action is needed to meet global storage goals. The solutions and recommendations highlighted in this framework aim to bridge that gap. With huge thanks, IHA's Gordon Edge, Head of Policy and Insights and Rebecca Ellis, Senior Energy Policy Manager were joined by: Jai Prakash Shivahare, IAS Managing Director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) encouraged developers to look to Gujarat for energy storage development opportunities. He highlighted the importance for renewable energy sites to include energy solutions with many of Gujurat's renewable projects covering pumped storage in their plans. With a focus on making their energy transition just and affordable. He emphasised Gujurat as an investor friendly state, with fast approvals, an eco system of infrastructure, in a state that is strategically located. Li Zhiguo Director of Business Department of Hydropower and Pumped Storage at China Three Gorges Corp. celebrated the global consensus for more pumped storage development, with an emphasis on policy makers needing consistent policies and incentives to support its sustainable development. He highlighted the need for pumped storage to be standardised, lowering cost and investment to support development. He also pointed out pumped storage is a key tool for regulating the grid and China's work to restructure energy grids with pumped storage as a key part of this restructure. ➡️ Access the toolkit: https://lnkd.in/dDJcvFsw
