The UK government is consulting on proposals to strengthen Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). As part of the Make Work Pay plan, the government is committed to improving SSP. The consultation is looking at the percentage replacement rate for those earning below the current rate of SSP. The consultation closes on the 4th December 2024. Home energy champions, dedicated outreach advisors and support for community owned renewables are part of a three-year National Lottery funded project that aims to create a thriving ecosystem of community-led action on energy across Bath and North East Somerset. Bath & North East Somerset Council partnered with Bath & West Community Energy, University of Bath and the Community Wellbeing Hub (BANES) to successfully bid for £1.5m funding from The National Lottery Climate Action Fund. The funding will support the creation of a network of Energy Champions, based within community groups, frontline services and third sector and health organisations across B&NES. They will be supporting peers, neighbours, communities and colleagues to access support around home energy, retrofit and renewables through a programme of local advice drop-ins and events and home visits providing basic draughtproofing and energy efficiency measures. The most magical time of the year is set to return to Bath and North East Somerset with only one week to go until the much-loved Bath Christmas Market opens once more. From November 28 until December 15, Bath city centre will transform into a winter wonderland for 18 days with more than 180 twinkling chalets nestled amongst some of the iconic landmarks, including The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and Bath’s historic Milsom Street. Residents in Bath and North East Somerset are invited to Bath Christmas Market one day early to explore the market at an exclusive preview event as the chalets open for the evening, alongside live entertainment, and festive food and drink. The annual residents’ preview evening takes place on Wednesday, November 27 between 5pm and 7pm.
