Super proud of our teams involvement in the design and supply of the yaw, pitch and main gearbox for this ground breaking tidal turbine.
Proteus Marine Renewables Installs Japan’s First 1.1MW Tidal Turbine! We have successfully deployed the AR1100 tidal turbine in Japan—making us the first tidal energy company to operate megawatt-scale devices in two countries! Installed in the Naru Strait, this turbine will generate 1.1MW of clean, predictable energy, accelerating the Goto Islands' decarbonisation and reinforcing Japan’s renewable energy transition. Building on our successful AR500 pilot in 2021 - where our 500kW turbine operated in the Naru Strait maintaining a 97% turbine availability - we signed an equipment supply and works contract with Kyuden Mirai Energy (KME) to upgrade it to 1.1MW. 🔹 Philip Archer, MD of Proteus Operations Japan, remarked: "Deploying the AR1100 in Japan is a testament to our team's dedication and expertise, working closely with local professionals. Our next focus is commissioning and accreditation of Japan’s first MW-scale grid-connected tidal system." 🔹 Drew Blaxland, our CEO added: "With operational turbines in both the UK and Japan, we are proving tidal energy’s scalability for coastal communities. As Japan transitions away from fossil fuels, reliable renewables like tidal energy will play a crucial role in securing a sustainable energy future." The deployment was carried out by local vessels and resources, under the supervision of the Proteus Offshore Services team, and was made possible through the expertise and collaboration of key partners in Japan. Kyuden Mirai Energy, with support from the Ministry of Environment, is playing a crucial role in advancing Japan’s transition to tidal energy. This is just the beginning. As we move forward with commissioning and accreditation, we’re proud to drive global tidal energy adoption and help shape a cleaner, more predictable energy future. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/euUX4J3N #TidalEnergy #RenewableEnergy #CleanPower #ProteusMarineRenewables #SustainableFuture #JapanEnergy #Decarbonisation #EnergyTransition Philip Archer Ryan Biggs Drew Blaxland
