From an unexpected meeting in #Lagos earlier this year to a gathering of phenomenal humans in London, what started as a quiet wish and hope became a reality. BuildMorocco, in collaboration with LEGA.C Capital, brought together thought leaders and executives from diverse sectors at the iconic The Diamond Lab in London under the theme: "Leading the Future: Women Driving Technology and Sustainability." Guided by Sophia Barhmi, Founder of BuildMorocco, and Nela Duke Ekpenyong, Co-Founder of LEGA.C Capital, the event created a platform for honest dialogue, bold perspectives, and meaningful connections. Conversations explored how women leaders are driving innovation, pushing boundaries, and shaping sustainable growth. It was also a space to share personal journeys—both challenges and opportunities—and to reflect on how gender inspires #leadership in unique ways. This wasn’t just about what #technology and #sustainability are bringing to women—it was about what women are bringing to the world. Five incredible women shared their stories, shaping the path for the next generation: 🔹 Ingrid Dynna, CEO & Co-Founder, Norwegian Mycelium (NoMy): Transforming fungi into sustainable, locally produced proteins. 🔹 Jamie Amelia Patel and Ruby Patel, Co-Founders, The Diamond Lab: Creating lab-grown diamonds for a conflict-free future. 🔹 Eunice Baguma Ball, Founder, Ishango.ai: develops and deploys remote data science teams to provide cutting-edge AI & data solutions globally. 🔹 Niloufar Gharavi, Founder, ENFA - Euro Nordic Funding Alliance : Making public funding accessible to startups and SMEs. We can’t thank you enough for your incredible contributions. Special thanks to Tony Fadell from Build Collective for highlighting the importance of innovation & investing in green, future shaping technologies, to Huda Kattan & Mona Monica Kattan from Huda Beauty & KAYALI for inspiring women globally and never falling short in supporting others and to Alex Ikonn, from Intelligent Change for your authenticity. All your thoughtful, curated gifts added a lasting touch of inspiration and empowerment for our guests. "Leading the Future" marks the beginning of a global series of intimate gatherings bridging continents and creating safe spaces for visionary thinkers to share their views. Under our fund, Al Hurra, we aim to ensure the next little girl—whether in Morocco or anywhere in the world—has access to the opportunities we’ve been fortunate enough to have. This event was more than a conversation—it was a commitment to leveraging innovation, empowering women leaders, and advancing sustainability. A final thank you to all the team members who were the backbone of this event: Lindy L., Ryan Lee, Gladys Kavuma, Cameron Shorter and of course, Meriem Barhmi. And you, who was the woman in your life that has empowered you the most? Robert Schur Annie Schur Danielle Dodoo Temi Marcella June Angelides, MBE

💡 AI Ethics: A Shared Responsibility As AI increasingly shapes decision-making, the ethical challenges in our field demand collective action. Issues like biased data, underrepresentation, and unintended consequences highlight the need for collaboration to build fair and transparent systems. Here’s a good read, “What Do We Do About the Biases in AI?” by James Manyika, Jake Silberg, and Brittany Presten that addresses how we can tackle bias in AI: https://lnkd.in/dh32i2M Let’s reflect: How are you ensuring ethical practices in your AI projects? Our #WomeninAI event last week was inspiring! It was a privilege to be in a room full of smart, ambitious women, sharing knowledge to help each other succeed. For this week’s newsletter, I’m sharing my key takeaways from the event. TL;DR: 💼 AI is a powerful differentiator, but solid business fundamentals—like a strong commercial model and good investor terms—are still essential for success. 🌍 AI can drive inclusion and social impact— we heard use cases ranging from providing personalized entrepreneurship coaching to supporting neurodivergent professionals. 🛠️ You don’t need to be technical to leverage AI! There are non-technical roles that focus on strategically applying AI to solve business challenges. 👥 A technical co-founder isn’t a must-have to build an AI-powered business. Access to external expertise (e.g Ishango.ai - shameless plug!) is a viable option. 🔍 "Don’t lead with technology/AI — first, understand the problem you’re trying to solve and how AI can add value. A big thank you to our speakers Christina Chen and Parul P., our hosts Ariel W. and Goodwin, the #WomeninTechWeek organizing team at WeAreTechWomen, and last but certainly not least to all the brilliant women in the room Alexandra Farrell Remi Ray Helen Collerton Violet Busingye Ijeoma Akwiwu Katharina Dalka Monica Daswani Sophie Fresco Claire Jenkins Opemipo Koshemani Sumathi Menon Yvonne Modu, MBA Alisa Patotskaya Maninder Paul Gretchen Scott Grace Thandekire Sibande MD
