Isles of Scilly Steamship Group
Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain and Storage
Providing responsible and innovative transport services for a unique destination
About us
In 1920, the people of the Isles of Scilly came together to form a company to deliver a reliable transport link to the mainland and the Steamship Group was born. A century after we were founded, our purpose is still the same. We’re here to provide the Isles of Scilly will the lifeline transport they need. Fast forward to today, and we celebrated a milestone 100 years of service to the islands in 2020. We are a company steeped in history. Our first vessel was a former Royal Navy coastguard ship called HMS Argus, renamed RMS Peninnis, which carried passengers to and from the islands for six years. In 1925, plans were drawn up for a purpose-built ship for the islands. After much discussion, the grand, steam-powered vessel was named Scillonian. Fast-forward to 2017, when we marked 40 years of faithful service from Scillonian III - our longest serving ship - and to 2019, when we welcomed our 4.5 millionth ferry passenger. Today, the company transports hundreds of thousands of passengers each year, delivers luggage and carries freight. We run planes, ships and an airport. With over 200 employees, our people are at the heart of our company. We offer the chance to work across a range of sectors within an inclusive, supportive environment. With hundreds of highly-skilled, well-paid employees, we are one of West Cornwall’s biggest employers. Careers here are varied – from drivers, engineers, pilots, baggage handlers, customer service agents and air traffic controllers to mariners, firefighters, marketing, finance and office staff. We still have descendants of the founding directors serving the company today. Throughout it all, our aim has always been the same: to deliver for Scilly. Our company is proud to be at the forefront of innovation and pioneering new technology. Green technology is at the heart of our future plans; we aspire to minimise environmental impact at the earliest opportunity.

Day 8 of Gratitude – Celebrating the Heroes Behind The Cornwall 500 As I continue my 10 days of gratitude, today I want to spotlight the incredible businesses that made The Cornwall 500 possible. Put hands together for: Pendennis Brass Falmouth ISLES OF SCILLY TRAVEL LIMITED Ross Handling Clive Mitchell Cycles RPD Tyres Truro ARB Signs in St Austell And a special thank you to Simon Jones. During the challenge, we often found ourselves knocking on doors—sometimes at the last minute and sometimes almost begging for help. And let’s face it, businesses are already facing enough challenges of their own. They want to help everyone who comes to them, but they simply can’t say yes to every request. That’s why their support has been so humbling and impactful. Despite the difficult times they face, they offered their time, resources, and expertise—and often without charge. Their generosity made it possible for this challenge to happen, removing barriers that might otherwise have been insurmountable. Today, I want to acknowledge the tough position these businesses are in and express my heartfelt thanks for the kindness and support they’ve shown. They are a shining example of community spirit, and their actions are a reminder of the power of coming together to achieve something bigger. Please join me in supporting these businesses as they’ve supported us. They truly are the unsung heroes behind The Cornwall 500. Thank you for believing in this challenge and in what we can achieve together. ❤️ #TC500 #Gratitude #TheCornwall500
