  • Vantage Data Centers has chosen Turner Construction Co. as the lead contractor for a $2-billion data center campus in New Albany, Ohio. This project will include three data centers totaling 1.5 million square feet and 192 MW on a 70-acre site, marking Vantage's seventh North American location. Matt Kunz from Turner highlights the project's role in meeting regional demand for scalable and sustainable infrastructure. The first center is set to be operational by 2025, with the others by 2028, aiming for LEED Silver certification. AEP Ohio will supply electricity, amid proposals for tariffs on data centers to cover infrastructure costs. Despite potential costs, data center growth continues in Ohio, with Microsoft planning a $1 billion investment in the area. The demand is driven by cloud computing and AI, with competitive power and land costs in Columbus/New Albany attracting developers. • Dave Bauer, president and CEO of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, discussed the future of the construction sector with Tom Ichniowski on November 7, amidst the Trump administration transition and Republican gains in Congress. Bauer emphasized the importance of determining party control in the House, with Republicans leading but some races undecided as of November 11. He highlighted the significance of personnel choices in the new administration, noting Trump's appointment of Lee Zeldin to the EPA as an example. Bauer observed no shift in Trump's infrastructure stance, recalling his strong 2016 campaign support and a 2018 $1.5 trillion proposal that set a benchmark for future infrastructure bills. Bauer noted the narrow Republican majority in the House and fewer than 60 Senate votes, making legislative progress challenging. A key focus is the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization bill, expiring in 2026, with 15 of the 19 Republicans who supported the last major measure returning to the Senate.
