Our Founder and MD Pete Clifford recently gave some more background to the original idea behind KARRI and what inspired him to start the company together with Carsten Zimmermann and Mehul Botadra

We originally created KARRI for our own needs as parents. But now we have real customers, nothing is more rewarding than hearing the reasons they love our solution. Here’s Natasha Austin, one of our first 100 Messenger prototype testers in her own words: “I first came across KARRI advertised on Facebook and realised after having my then 11 year old having a smartphone that it was an experience that I wanted to delay as long as possible with my 8 year old (in the photo!). The social pressures to have a screen to communicate with others is real and even working in IT, with a wide understanding of parental controls, it was so difficult to protect my son from the potential dangers of being constantly immersed in a screen. As an early purchaser I was so excited that they were looking for early testers and felt this was an ideal opportunity to explore the potential of their product. Me and my youngest son we have been able to test the first prototype of the KARRI and have given open and honest feedback to the team who have then been really proactive to make improvements ahead of the full public release. The company has some great ideas to grow with in the near future and it’s definitely a product to consider if you have young children who you want to give a little more freedom to - without a smartphone in their hand!" #smartphonefreechildhood #letgrow #freerangekids

We are all really excited about this announcement at KARRI (especially as it comes just before shipping our first real KARRI's...) We will be partnering with word-renowned independent design agency Pentagram to bring our future KARRI devices to mass-market level. Pentagram already have a long list of recent industrial design successes behind them, including the Yoto audio player, Pigzbe digital piggy-bank and the Beeline bike navigation device (https://beeline.co/). We're looking forward to working with Jon Marshall and his world-class team (Amelia Kociolkowska, Gabbi and Shing), plus our growing customer base in the coming months and can't wait to see the results! My original inspiration for KARRI came precisely from a strong desire to let my son have more freedom to roam outside with his friends (without giving him a smartphone). In the coming years, it's our vision that we can provide parents a genuine alternative to giving their children a smartphone when it's time to give their kids more independence #smartphonefreechildhood #screenfree
