At the heart of Kimal is a passion for delivering innovative solutions & exceeding our customers' expectations

About us

Kimal is an innovative manufacturer of customised procedure packs and vascular access devices to clinical departments in over 70 countries worldwide. The Company manufactures over 2 million procedure packs and vascular access devices every year for a range of specialities including: cardiology, radiology, pacing, laparoscopy, and cardiac surgery; and our unique, ground-breaking central venous catheter technology is helping to reduce patient risk in hospitals across the world. It all started in 1964 when Kimal began distributing innovative products for well-known medical companies. In fact, the Company was responsible for launching some of the 'healthcare firsts' in the UK, including: one of the first heart pacemakers; the Judkins catheter, which is still used in coronary angiography procedures today; the world's first hollow fibre dialyser, launching haemodialysis as we know it; the first US coronary angioplasty balloon technology, which is still used in percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) procedures today; and the first coronary stent, which is still used in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) today. In 1990, Kimal switched its focus from being a trusted distribution partner for large international companies to that of a trusted manufacturer and since launching the first cardiology procedure pack in the UK in the early nineties, the company has grown significantly. Today Kimal has direct sales offices in the UK, France, and the UAE, as well as manufacturing facilities in the UK and Egypt.

✨ NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK – “Hiring an apprentice isn’t just an investment in talent, it’s an investment in the future!” Leila joined Kimal in November 2024 as Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner Apprentice. Leila is a valuable member of the team, really excelling within her role, has settled into the team really well and has already made a big impact, working on some key projects. 🌟   🔹 Why did you choose an apprenticeship, specifically in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability? My interests have always aligned with sustainability, while I had solid academic insight and valuable character-building work experience, I lacked working and impactful knowledge of sustainability. I was particularly attracted by the corporate aspect of the role as the corporate sector plays such a significant role in its contributions to climate change but also has such potential to drive meaningful and impactful change.   🔹 What does a typical day look like in your role? I’m lucky enough to be involved with several ongoing projects with varying deadlines, this means my day can be quite varied. A typical day includes tasks like producing and updating reports and databases with new information, conducting hands-on work to gather primary data, engaging in research and training, coordinating with internal and external teams, and progressing through the modules of my apprenticeship course.   🔹 What’s been your biggest challenge during your apprenticeship? A significant proportion of my working experience has involved working in the public sector and hospitality, so transitioning into the manufacturing industry and understanding our role in the supply chain has been a challenge. This has been especially relevant as a sustainability apprentice as it can be easy to underestimate the complexities of introducing new practices or procedures, particularly with product development and production.   🔹 What are your future goals after your apprenticeship finishes? I hope to apply my knowledge and experience to a more senior position, where I can lead and drive meaningful progress in sustainability initiatives. I am eager to be at the forefront of shaping strategies that promote environmental responsibility and sustainable practices within the organisation.   🔹 What would you say to others thinking about starting an apprenticeship in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability / what advice would you give to future apprentices? You stand to learn so much more by learning and doing simultaneously. Sometimes it can be difficult to see how academic theories are relevant or work in practice and vice versa, there might be an intangible working practice which you would understand with a better theoretical understanding. I feel that apprenticeships offer a way to explore different areas while channeling varied skills, experience, and knowledge into a structured role, helping to direct strengths and interests. #NAW2025 #ApprenticeshipJourney

  • ✨ NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK – “Invest in yourself, apprenticeships pay off!” Noah joined the IT team in October 2023 as an IT Apprentice and is a key member of the team. “I’m Noah, the first ever Apprentice at Kimal. I successfully completed my IT apprenticeship in January 2025 and have gone on to secure a full-time job as a 1st Line Support Technician for Kimal. Kimal has been such an amazing company to begin my career with and I am grateful to be continuing my employment at Kimal!” 🔹 What does a typical day look like in your role as IT Apprentice? My typical day is quite dynamic and hands-on. I start by checking and responding to any urgent emails or support tickets that came in overnight. Throughout the day: troubleshoot technical issues, help colleagues with IT-related queries, and work on other various tickets which I know have a more urgent deadline. I also spend time learning new skills and technologies, either through online courses or hands-on practice. I really enjoy the variety and the opportunity to develop my skills. 🔹 What’s been your biggest challenge during your apprenticeship? One of the biggest challenges I've faced during my apprenticeship as an IT technician has been balancing the need to learn new skills quickly while also applying them in real-time situations. There are moments when a complex issue arises, and I need to troubleshoot it effectively without having extensive prior experience. This can be quite stressful, but it's also incredibly rewarding when I manage to resolve the problem. Additionally, keeping up with the rapid pace of technological advancements requires continuous learning and adaptation, which can be demanding but ultimately helps me grow professionally. 🔹 What are your future goals after your apprenticeship finishes? After my apprenticeship, my primary goal was to secure a full-time position where I can continue to grow and apply the skills I've developed. I aim to specialise in a particular area of IT, such as cyber security or cloud computing, to become an expert in that field. I plan to pursue further certifications and training to stay updated with the latest technologies and advancements. Ultimately, I hope to take on more responsibilities and eventually move into a senior technician or IT management role. 🔹 What would you say to others thinking about starting an apprenticeship in IT / what advice would you give to future apprentices? I'd say go for it! It's an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience while learning on the job. My advice is to be curious & proactive. Don't be afraid to ask questions, seek help when needed - everyone starts somewhere, your colleagues are there to support you. Take advantage of every learning opportunity, whether it's through formal training or hands-on tasks. Stay updated with the latest tech trends and continuously work on improving your skills. Most importantly, enjoy the journey & the chance to grow both personally and professionally.

  • ✨ NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK – "An apprenticeship is not just about learning a trade, it’s about shaping your future."   Freya joined the Company in September 2024 as an HR Apprentice. The HR team are so fortunate to have Freya as part of the team, she's a real asset! She's confident, determined, ambitious, and super enthusiastic. 🌟   "My name is Freya and I am the HR apprentice for Kimal. I started my apprenticeship in September and have already gained so much knowledge and exposure. Kimal is a great place to work and I am super excited to see what the future holds!"   𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗥 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿?   I felt it was the most suitable option for me after completing my A levels. University did not appeal to me and I wanted to learn on the job and still make an income. I knew I was interested in the HR world and so I felt gaining exposure in HR as well as getting the experience of working a full-time job was the best choice for me. I have always loved interacting with people and helping people to get the best for them and for the business.   𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗥 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?   A typical day in the life varies in HR as there are always different things going on! Assisting the HR Admin on any admin jobs they need help with e.g. for new starters, leavers and absences, shadowing the HR Business Partners on any cases or tasks they may have on the day, conducting inductions for new starters and ensuring they have any questions answered, sitting in on meetings and notetaking with managers and their employees, speaking with HRBPs on their latest cases and how they handled them, researching employment law and using ACAS to it’s full advantage.    𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀?   My goals are to pass my Apprenticeship Level 3 and then progress to gain my CIPD Level 5 and 7. I want to continue to progress and excel in the HR field; dealing with more advanced cases and advising managers confidently is something I strive to achieve. I want to keep developing my skills to ensure I can benefit the company in the best way possible and offer excellent HR support to employees.   𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗥 / 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀?   I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship as it is a great way to get direct exposure in a particular role and for anybody who is stuck on what career path to choose. You get real life experience, still make an income and get a qualification (hopefully) at the end of it!   #NAW2025 #ApprenticeshipJourney #FutureLeaders

🚀 ✨ We’re thrilled to share that the Health Innovation West of England has launched a real-world evaluation with Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust to test one of our innovative new products, the 𝐇𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫. Our mission is to advance maternity care for every mother, and aligning this vision with trusted partners moves us closer to our goal. This six-month trial will explore how the 𝐇𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 can impact and improve procedure times, blood loss, and patient satisfaction. Severe perineal tears currently remain one of the most common challenges in maternity healthcare. They affect around 19,000 women every year in England and present a number of long-term health and wellbeing complications if not properly treated. The Hegenberger Retractor is a revolutionary tool to provide clinicians with better perineal tear visibility and support more effective repair. This trial will provide valuable insights into how the Hegenberger Retractor can be integrated into standard practice to improve recovery outcomes for mothers and clinical experience for providers. We’re eager to gain perspective from patients and clinicians into how the Hegenberger Retractor can enhance clinical practice for providers and health outcomes for mothers. Read more about the trial below—or, if you’re interested in trialling the Hegenberger Retractor in your department, contact the Kimal Maternity team today.
