This week, we’re celebrating Ruth Ayers, one of our talented Software Engineers at KD. Ruth’s journey began with a theoretical physics degree at UCL, leading to an IBM internship where she built real-time dashboards to cut emissions in the oil and gas industry. She later earned an experimental physics PhD at Imperial College London, researching ultrafast laser fragmentation of biomolecules to better understand molecular dynamics and structure for biomarker and disease detection. Ruth's drive towards applied sciences led her to sustainability consulting and, ultimately, KD, where she now works on diagnostic devices, sensing systems, experimental prototyping, and data analysis & visualisation. Last week, we launched our Human Digest internal event series for KD colleagues with our first-ever patient insight session! This initiative brings patients, healthcare professionals and other experts into our Bristol office to share their lived experiences, helping our team gain a deeper understanding of various medical conditions. Our first session was incredibly insightful, featuring a moving testimony from someone living with an ostomy bag, alongside insights from a dedicated stoma nurse from Bristol Royal Infirmary. Their stories brought home the real-world impact of our work in ways that data alone never could. A huge thank you to Katie Passley, Senior Human Factors Consultant, and Alice Coey, Senior Design Strategist, for their outstanding work in organising and hosting this session. We’re excited to continue these conversations and foster greater empathy and innovation in healthcare! #HealthcareInnovation #HumanFactors #PatientInsights
