About us

lancaster.gay is a non-profit website built and maintained by Jaydn Edwards. It's goal is to connect the local queer community by acting as a trans-inclusive directory for all things queer in Lancaster. For the sake of clarity, lancaster.gay is *not* a registered non-profit; just a single person with a social mission who doesn't take money to use or contribute to the website.

  • In the interest of transparency, I’d like to clarify that while lancaster.gay is not for profit, it is *not* a registered non-profit; it’s just a guy with a social mission building a website. I don’t charge for making a submission or using the website - and I never will. I may look for ways to help cover costs in the future, such as donations and sponsorships, but I do not expect nor plan to profit from this. I currently have a very small Etsy store queeroracle.etsy.com, which helps a little. Perhaps in the future, I may decide to become a fully fledged non-profit (and seek funding) - but right now I don’t have the space for it ♥️ Just wanted everyone to know exactly what the deal was so no one gets the wrong idea ♥️

Dear LinkedIn Friends! Today we were thrilled to find out that Lancashire County Council are going to give us £13,309 towards our Crowd Funder for Escape2Make! BUT...they will not let us have it if we fail to raise the remaining £10,062 we need in the next 48 days! Please can you help us by either:- - making a donation no matter how small. It takes 2 mins via this link:- https://lnkd.in/eveGZusJ - sharing this post - fundraising for us (as a business or individual) to help us to reach the target An 'Escape2Bake' maybe!? NB To make things a wee bit easier we've created an individual or organisation fundraising pack that you can download for more info and a donation form! https://lnkd.in/dzC42MHC P.S I am doing an 'Escape2Lake' challenge! A 500m night swim in November! Any donations for that would be very welcome! I'm terrified! Escape2Quaking in my boots!

We’re so excited to announce that Queer By Gum CIC has received one year of funding from the National Lottery Community Fund! Thank you to everyone who has supported us to get to this point, to our wonderful queer creative community and to @tnlcommunityfund and its lottery players for the grant! What does this mean? Up until now Queer By Gum CIC has been entirely volunteer led, however the running of the organisation was becoming increasingly unmanageable as provision increased. This funding will cover 12 months running costs so we can continue to grow and become a sustainable not-for-profit LGBTQ+ provision. This includes funding to cover studio rental costs; professional fees (insurance/accounts) and investment in a new paid Project Manager role (16 hours) to coordinate and manage existing provision and to explore opportunities for future projects; collaborations and funding. Here’s to our next chapter! 🌈✨🏳️⚧️♥️ #lgbtqia #queer #queerjoy #arts #craft #artandcraft #community #tnlcommunityfund #northwest #morecambe #lancaster #funding #football #lgbt #communityinterestcompany #queerbygum #queerbygumcic

Calling all LGBT professionals and allies 🌈 At Pride in Leadership, we're on a mission to uncover the challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face in their career journeys. There’s a serious lack of data on the barriers we encounter—and we’re determined to change that with your help. But we need YOU to make it happen. If you're LGBTQ+, please take a moment to share your experiences through our survey. Already, 740 voices have joined us, but we’re not stopping there. Our goal is to hit 1,000 responses—and with your support, we can do it! So: - If you’re LGBTQ+, complete the survey and share your story. - If you’re an ally, please share this post with every LGBTQ+ person you know. Let’s make sure their voices are heard! https://lnkd.in/eFRP4XvK #Pride #LGBTQ #CareerDevelopment

  • I'll second all of this. Every time I open comments on a queer post on social media, there are always guaranteed bigoted comments. When I posted about lancaster.gay in the local Lancaster Past & Present Facebook group, I had to deal with people tagging their mates as a joke, men complaining that we're shoving it down their throats, and having to teach cis het people why Pride is necessary. On a lighter note, I've never felt safer or more welcomed than at Pride.

This Saturday is Norwich Pride 😊 Not sure if Pride is necessary? Read your local newspaper's Facebook comments. That'll give you a clue. Oh, and don't forget: • 9 out of 10 trans kids have considered suicide. • 320 trans and gender-diverse people were killed last year. • 94% of those killed were trans women or trans-feminine people - most of them were Black. • LGBTQIA+ communities are more likely to experience mental health problems. • And problems with substance abuse. • And they're more likely to have an eating disorder. It isn't getting better, either: • LGBTQIA+ youth who considered suicide rose from 40% in 2020 to 45% in 2022. • Reports of transphobic hate crimes quadrupled between 2015-2020. So, yes, Pride is important. It's not just a celebration of who we are. Of those who paved the way for us. As long as violence against LGBTQIA+ folk continues, Pride is a protest for a better, safer future - for everyone. We organise and facilitate creative workshops, projects, and safer spaces for the LGBTQ+ community in Lancaster and Morecambe. Why We Exist: Queer By Gum started as a weekly Queer Craft Club at The Gregson Arts and Community Centre, led by local artist and musician Vaz. As we grew, we recognised the need for more inclusive safer spaces where the LGBTQ+ community can create, connect and organise outside of crisis intervention or club nights. Here’s what our community says about us: “Comfort around other queer people, an open space for conversation and creative sharing.” “A place to explore my gender identity in a safe place, a place to find friends that I can then meet with, and a regular space where I can find community, touch base and remind myself that I’m not weird and I belong in this world.” “Connection to the queer community around me. I’ve been in Lancaster for 13 years and never knew there was so much friendship until now.” “It has made a positive impact on my mental health, having a space where I can connect to the LGBTQ+ community, a space where I can make art and meet lovely people”. "Community & uplifting LGBTQ+ people in difficult times" What We Offer: We run a variety of volunteer-led activities, including: * Weekly Craft Club * Social Club * Football Club * Monthly Book and Coding Clubs Find out more on our website: www.queerbygum.org.uk In the past year, we’ve organised numerous events from Queer Variety Shows to a Queer Ceilidh.
