In 2024, we witnessed steady but consistently lower transaction volumes. This begs the question: Why didn't lower volumes mean faster transactions? Our latest #PropertyTransactionsReport seeks to answer that question (and more), delving into 17 years’ worth of data and analysis of the length of time taken between key milestones, with cross-market commentary from our experts. Major talking points covered in the report include: • What are the persistent bottlenecks in the home-buying process? • Where have we seen improvements in timelines? • How do property transaction timescales compare to consumer expectations? The Government recently announced plans to digitise property transactions to streamline the home-buying and selling process. Our CEO Simon Brown spoke to The Negotiator about why he welcomes the move but stresses that the Government must listen to the voices of the industry for the transformation to be impactful. Technology by itself will not solve the challenges felt across industry. For the Government’s plans to succeed, close collaboration with industry is essential to ensure that digital tools are implemented effectively and within a system that is fit for purpose. The inefficiencies of the current home-buying and selling process are well documented and the impact of the protracted timelines are felt by both the people and the profit margins up and down the pipeline. The desire for greater collaboration between property professionals has never been higher – what is needed next is for Government to take onboard meaningful input from industry leaders who understand the complexities of the market and have long been working to modernise the market.
