How Emily's mentoring experience led to a career with Mowi Scotland 🌊 Emily Hill graduated from the Scottish Association for Marine Science with a BSc in Marine Science with Arctic Studies, then studied for two years at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology, gaining an MSc in Environmental Toxicology. Having experienced the opportunities available in the aquaculture industry whilst living in Norway, when Emily returned to the west coast of Scotland, she knew she wanted a career in aquaculture, but wasn't sure where to start. She was given the opportunity to join the WiSA mentoring programme and was paired with Donald Waring, Learning and Development Manager. Donald helped Emily map out her skills and passions, and following a course in Environmental Management, she secured a job in the environmental side of aquaculture less than 12 months later. Even if you're not sure where you want to go within the aquaculture sector, mentoring is still for you! Gain clarity, create a plan and be inspired. Apply by midnight tonight for your space on the mentoring programme! https://lnkd.in/eQ4aH9Dx #DiversityMakesUsWiSA #WomenInAquaculture #Mentoring Crown Estate Scotland | Lantra Scotland | Lantra

Thinking of hiring an apprentice, but unsure of the things you should be looking out for as an employer? We know from our research that hiring an apprentice can be challenging for an employer, especially if they have never recruited and employed an apprentice before. With this in mind, we have pulled together 3 top tips to consider when hiring an apprentice: 1️⃣ Get the Apprenticeship Agreement Right: Ensure you have a valid Apprenticeship Agreement in place. This agreement should cover the specific trade or occupation for which the apprentice is being trained and is crucial for eligibility for Apprenticeship Levy funding in England and Wales. 2️⃣ Recruit Carefully: Treat the recruitment process for apprentices as seriously as you would for any other employee. This includes conducting thorough interviews and obtaining references to ensure the candidate is a good fit for your organisation. 3️⃣ Provide Mentoring and Support: Set up internal mentoring structures to support your apprentice. Pairing them with a buddy or mentor can help them integrate into the team, build confidence, and develop their skills effectively. Hiring an apprentice can bring a wealth of benefits to your business. Find out more about apprenticeships here: https://lnkd.in/es4GhCzU

During National Apprenticeship Week, we published our interim findings from the research Lantra are undertaking in partnership with the British Association of Landscape Industries The research is exploring barriers to bringing new entrants into the landscaping sector. We can now share that 80% of respondents expect to hire staff within the next 12 months; 68% expect to do so within the next six months. More than half of those expecting to hire staff believe the positions might be suitable for an apprentice. 6 in 10 would like to know more about how funding works when employing an apprentice and 5 in 10 want to know how apprenticeships work. 80% of respondents said it was difficult to recruit an apprentice with 16% saying it was very difficult. The project is now moving into it's second phase, seeing a series of focus groups take place to discuss the experiences and challenges landscaping businesses face, in more depth. If you would like to be involved in the focus groups - get in touch with us via email: research@lantra.co.uk Read more about the interim findings here: https://lnkd.in/exnqFVUM

Did you know Lantra manages the National Highway Sector Schemes (NHSS) covering temporary traffic management, and fencing, including vehicle restrain systems, assuring high standards of safety and practice across the UK's road network? Wilbar Associates Ltd, one of Lantra's NHSS Training Centres, provided feedback on working with Lantra: "Lantra has a great access to train the trainer scheduling and a far above average customer service experience, with an effective stream of communication. Regularly, most of our issues/queries are resolved within 24 hours. "Submission processes and requirements are smooth and un-intrusive, and lead to a very positive, and rapid turnaround time with processing. I believe that other awarding organisations could learn a lot by following the practices enforced by Lantra. "Course quality and standardisation is excellent, whilst also offering a superb range of courses within the Lantra catalogue."
