Networking – A necessary evil or unexpected joy? November seemed to have evolved into my very own networking marathon. I'll admit, I've always viewed networking with awkwardness, uncomfortable small talk and feeling like a Billy-no-mates. Yet, somehow, this month, I've found myself rather enjoying it especially with the added bonus of seeing all the festive lights across London! Each event, thankfully filled with genuinely lovely, down-to-earth people. Hearing people tell stories so passionately about their work, each conversation has been, dare I say, enjoyable. Starting off with the RMAs – OK, that was 31st October but we partied into 1st November so I am counting that one. 🏆 Winning an award for our DE&I Campaign was a highlight, and to hang out with David Phillips is always a joy. Also having the pleasure to bump into some of our previous podcast guests and industry peers. The Happiness Conference by the The Happiness Index was full of genuinely nice people who had a great story to tell, some brilliant speakers where I learnt so much about workplace happiness and its benefits, and we got to hang out with the one and only Matthew Phelan 🤩 Following that, EB Uncut by The EB Space provided the fun and an unconventional way to get to know people with a name badge bingo. Very entertaining and I won a chocolate hamper so that topped off my night (To be honest, no one else got a chance 🍫 ). Shout out to Claire and Alex for hosting. Can’t wait for the next one. And then my latest event with TalentMapper. Thanks to Martin for sharing the trends for HR professionals for 2025 and great to catch up with Erica Rose too in a fantastic location with views across London. It has been a brilliant opportunity to also scout out guests for our next season of our LEAP Listens employer brand podcast, re-launching in January with a new look and feel. A recent discussion at the EB Meet-up event that I ran for LEAP Create on 2025 employer brand trends highlighted a common concern “Are we actually walking the walk, or is it all just talk?’’ Despite 87% of companies stating that DE&I is a priority (McKinsey, 2023), only 40% of employees feel their business reflect this commitment. The gap is clear, and the need for authentic, actionable strategies has never been more urgent.
