🏆 Legendre UK Tournament 2024 – Finale Recap!   What a fantastic journey it’s been! This year’s tournament showcased the dedication, enthusiasm, and amazing team spirit of our UK team. 🌟   We had four brilliant teams representing our key projects with fun, project-inspired names: ➡️ Peterbros 🤜🤛 (Peterborough project) ➡️ Heigh Ho! It’s Snaresbrook from work we go 🛠️ (Head Office/Snaresbrook) ➡️ As H(e)igh(ts) as a Kite 🎈 (The Heights project) ➡️ Sheep(s)cot(t-ish) 🐑 (Sheepcote Road project)   From volleyball to running, squash to cycling, and even a construction game, our teams gave their all through every challenge. Now, the champions have been crowned: Peterbros! 🏆 Their consistent performance and exceptional teamwork led to a well-earned victory. Congratulations to the Peterborough team! 🎉   The tournament concluded with a celebration, a perfect way to celebrate the successes and strengthen the connections we’ve built along the way. Dikwe, Groupe Legendre’s 🌊 wave-energy breakwater project, has been 🎖️ awarded the Ocean Innovation Trophy! Just a few weeks ago, during the 2024 Ocean Innovation Trophies ceremony, the 💼 Dikwe team proudly accepted their award at the ⛵ Vendée Globe village in 📌 Les Sables d’Olonne. This prestigious national competition, established in 2020 by Banque Populaire Grand Ouest and its Crédit Maritime Grand Ouest brand, shines a spotlight on 🏢 businesses, 🧪 research centres, and local authorities across France that are developing innovative projects to protect our 🌿 oceans and drive sustainable blue growth. The 2024 edition was a ✌️ resounding success, with 5️⃣3️⃣ groundbreaking innovations showcased from all corners of France. Through #Dikwe, Groupe Legendre, in collaboration with GEPS Techno and Ifremer, is delivering a 💡 game-changing solution for port authorities looking to accelerate their energy transition. This ⚙️ cutting-edge technology transforms traditional port infrastructure by integrating a breakwater system (new or refurbished) capable of generating clean, renewable energy from the 〰️ power of waves. This innovation turns a passive structure into an active one, producing electricity that can be used locally or fed into the grid. We’re proud to announce the delivery of Shorts Gardens for Legendre UK, a vibrant mixed-use destination in the heart of Covent Garden, London. This development seamlessly integrates premium office spaces across eight floors with four high quality residences, including a penthouse featuring a private rooftop terrace. The ground and basement levels offer versatile spaces designed to complement the unique character of the area. The project was a meticulous retrofit and redevelopment effort, reinventing century old structures for modern occupation, whilst paying homage to the history of the building. Our team successfully navigated the challenges of working above the Elizabeth Line, managing narrow streets, and coordinating multiple party walls. As our Director, Charles Jordan put it: “Short's Gardens is a stunning project that captures the essence of contemporary development. Earlier this month, 10 employees from Legendre UK took part in the MoRun in Richmond Park, helping to raise awareness for Movember. The initiative supports key men’s health causes, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Some participants challenged themselves with the Half Marathon, while others completed the 10k—a fantastic effort by all involved. The London MoRun raised an impressive £9600 for Movember this year, a great reminder that when people come together, great things can be achieved. A new project delivered in the heart of London’s West End! This summer, Legendre UK successfully delivered Shorts Gardens (Arclight Development), a carefully planned retrofit and redevelopment project revitalising historic buildings in Covent Garden. Commissioned by SGLLP, a joint venture between Span Group Ltd and Pearl & Coutts Ltd (Part of Structadene Group), project designed by Buckley Gray Yeoman, the scheme has transformed a former electricity substation⚡and warehouse into a mixed-use development.   The project spans 50,000 square feet, providing 30,000 square feet of office space across eight floors and four high-quality residences, including a penthouse with a private rooftop terrace.   Delivered in a challenging environment, the project involved working with 100-year-old structures, navigating the proximity of a Crossrail tunnel 🚇, and managing narrow streets and multiple party walls. 🏗️ Construction included dividing the basement into two levels, adding new floors, and restoring the original façade to increase natural light and enhance the streetscape.   A central feature of the development is the Dynamo Hall, a four-storey space that previously housed generators for London’s theatre district. It now boasts a 13.5-metre-high atrium and a bespoke light sculpture, bringing natural light into the building while honouring its industrial heritage.   Sustainability was a key focus throughout, with the project achieving a BREEAM Very Good certification. Reclaimed materials, including original bricks in the façade 🧱, were integrated alongside features such as cycle storage 🚲, shower facilities 🚿, and a green roof to create a building that balances heritage and modern functionality. 🎥 Want to see more? A month ago, nine determined team members successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge!   Starting the journey at 5:20 am, everyone managed to complete the challenge under 12 hours ⏳—an incredible achievement considering the demanding nature of this trek. Notably, Simon went above and beyond, completing the challenge running and under 6 hours! ⏱️👏   The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge 🏔️, set in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park, is known for its scenic 39.2 km circular route that includes the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough. Each peak presents its own set of challenges, with steep ascents, rocky paths and sweeping panoramic views.   The team took part in this challenge to raise awareness and support for mental health 🧠, a pressing concern in the construction industry and an important cause for Legendre teams. Funds raised went to Mind, a charity dedicated to mental health support.   But the challenge isn’t quite over! You can still help make a difference and continue raising awareness for mental health. Progress update on Peterborough Road! Legendre UK is making steady progress ✅ on the 46,000 sq ft office development at Parsons Green, built on behalf of W.RE. The team has recently installed temporary façade retention steelwork, enabling us to proceed safely with demolition. So far, approximately 50% of the existing structure has been removed, marking a key stage in the project. Additionally, sheet piling is now underway, allowing the relocation of the electrical substation—an essential step towards full demolition. Designed by TateHindle architects, this office building will feature six floors of flexible workspace, including accessible roof terraces, with a strong focus on sustainability ♻️ and an energy-efficient design ⚡ featuring air source heat pumps and PV panels. More than a construction project, this development aligns with our co-investment strategy, strengthening the partnership between the London office and W.RE to deliver top-tier office solutions 💼 to Southwest London. Welcome to Henna Shah, our new Design Coordinator who joined the #London office!   With a degree in architecture and a background spanning architecture, kitchen design, and technical training, Henna joined us a few weeks ago.   In her role, she will play a key part in keeping our projects on track. Henna will be responsible for managing design documentation, coordinating with consultants and contractors, and reviewing technical details to ensure every specification aligns with project, client, and warranty standards.   Her main objectives right now are to enhance her technical skills, deepen her knowledge of the Building Safety Act, and bring innovative solutions to our projects.
