Today we said goodbye to our last holiday guests of 2024, who had a wonderful Christmas break here and who were treated yesterday to the bagpipes, played by longstanding friend and supporter, Lyle Crawford. As we look back on 2024 the main takeaway is one of development and growth throughout all our services. We've increased our guest numbers and supported on average one more guest per holiday in the house. 💚 We've provided 318 self-catering respite breaks, 210 more than last year. 🎉 We've been out on 238 mini-bus trips! 🚃 😃 We've recruited more volunteers to help with our Leuchie at Home service. And we've welcomed 12 students from QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY, EDINBURGH on placements to learn about what we do here. Oh, and we've grown our team to a fabulous 99, who ALL play their part in providing life changing respite for families living with neurological conditions. We can't wait to get going again in 2025 and continue to transform lives by proactively improving health, enabling independence and tackling loneliness . But first, time to rest, to party and to refresh. Happy New Year to each and every one of you
About us
Leuchie House is an independent charity supporting people, and their families, living with the devastating effects of long term conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, motor neurone disease and cerebral palsy. Based in an 18th century mansion in the beautiful East Lothian countryside, the charity offers respite breaks over four, seven or 11 nights tailored to the needs of people with long term conditions. Included in every break is expert 24/7 nursing care, one-to-one physiotherapy, a daily in-house activities and entertainment programme, outings in accessible vehicles and freshly prepared meals. Short respite breaks are a lifeline for most people with long term conditions and for the people who care for them - usually a spouse or other family member. For many carers the demands of a 24/7 caring role can leave them at breaking point. A respite break is an opportunity for them to have time away from their caring responsibilities knowing that the person they normally look after is receiving round-the-clock care. Leuchie is the only respite facility in Scotland able to provide such complex clinical care in a non-clinical environment. Over the past six years, Leuchie has become widely recognised as a centre for excellence in providing short respite breaks with a person-centred approach to care. With limited opportunities for respite in the UK, guests travel significant distances just to get a break. In 2018, guests came from 28 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities and 20 English local authorities. Given the limited provision of respite services in Scotland, Leuchie House is vital for people with an increasingly diverse and complex range of conditions.

Helen, the face of our Christmas Appeal this year, told us why Leuchie means so much to her and her husband, Ian. There is still time to donate to our Christmas Appeal and read Helen's fully story here: https://lnkd.in/eXgm6axi

After battling the health and social care system to get support while still working and caring for Helen full time, Ian explains why they both benefit so much from Leuchie's services and how important it is. We want to be here for so many more families, like Ian and Helen’s, but we have to raise at least £1.5 million per year to do this. You can help us turn hope into certainty by making a gift of just £10 per month. Whatever you do today will have impact. https://lnkd.in/eXgm6axi

One of the quotes from the guest evaluations this holiday really jumped out. When asked what they've enjoyed the most about this break, guest Lucille replied "It feels like Freedom". This is testament to our wonderful team who don't just care for our guests but help them enjoy a wonderful holiday with as much independence as possible. The house is closed now for the weekend, and the team are going to enjoy a well deserved break, ready for welcoming our new guests on Monday. We hope you all have a lovely, restful weekend too!

And for those that were wondering … his knees made it! Well done Richard Meade 👏What an achievement. And thanks again for raising funds for Leuchie. 💚
I finished the Valencia marathon on Sunday and wanted to say a huge thank you for all the messages of support and sponsorship. I have been really moved by the response and it provided some extra motivation on Sunday morning. Amazingly my knees felt great, and despite a few cramping issues in my hamstrings I really (well, mostly) enjoyed my run and finished in 2.45.20. Here is a photo of me at the end still smiling, although I am now struggling to walk! You can still sponsor me at: https://lnkd.in/e_Wd5TCa

Thank you Simpson & Marwick! For this, and for your ongoing support 💚
£420.81 raised for Leuchie tonight, from our mulled wine and sweet treats during North Berwick’s Christmas lights switch-on. A special thanks to our incredible team, for giving up their Saturday night to come along to help. We even managed to spot one of our North Berwick Football Club strips! 🎄🎅🏻👏🏻

1 in 5 of our guests have not seen a healthcare specialist in 5 years. As our NHS struggles to cope, we know we can do more to improve the lives of people living with the affects of a neurological condition, as our Physiotherapist Louise tells us in this video clip. https://lnkd.in/ez7ei8Kp Donate today to turn hope into certainty 🙏💚 leuchiehouse.org.uk/appeal #xmasappeal #charityappeal #leuchie #respitecharity

Thank you Whisky 1901 - that was certainly a nail biting moment in the live auction! Great Lot 💥 It was a very generous donation much appreciated by the team and we'd like to say thank you on behalf of all the people we support.
Whisky 1901 was honoured to support the Leuchie Long Lunch Fundraiser by donating a cask of our finest whisky casks. We are delighted to share that the cask successfully raised £7,000, all of which will be donated in full to the charity to aid in their vital efforts. An astonishing £172,600 in total was raised! These vital funds will help turn hope into certainty for hundreds of individuals living with a neurological condition such as MS, MND, Parkinson’s and stroke, and the ones who care for them. The cask is from the Tomatin Distillery located in Inverness-shire. The distillery was founded in 1897 in the Highland region. Details of the Tomatin 2015 Cask sold at auction: - Distilled on 06/05/2015 - Currently maturing in a bonded warehouse in Scotland - Impressive 60.1% cask strength - Estimated yield of approximately 281 bottles #WhiskyForACause #TomatinDistillery #Charity #CharityEvent #charityauction #charityfundraiser #whisky1901

We couldn't be more proud of our Director of Care & Health, Emma Jenson, who was awarded the honour of becoming a member of the the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland and given the title of Queen's Nurse. This is in recognition of her extraordinary talent and commitment. Emma, we're lucky to have you!
An absolute honour to be awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse. It has been the most amazing journey and I couldn’t be more thankful for those I met along the way. Mark Bevan for nominating me and supporting me through it all. Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland it’s a privilege to be part of your community. But, it’s the guests at Leuchie I have the absolute honour of being a part of their journey and are the real hero’s in my story, they are the reason I am where I am today
