After battling the health and social care system to get support while still working and caring for Helen full time, Ian explains why they both benefit so much from Leuchie's services and how important it is. We want to be here for so many more families, like Ian and Helen’s, but we have to raise at least £1.5 million per year to do this. You can help us turn hope into certainty by making a gift of just £10 per month. Whatever you do today will have impact. https://lnkd.in/eXgm6axi

We NEED your help! The recent UK Budget has significantly impacted charitable giving, with limited provisions to support the voluntary sector amidst rising demands. Charities, already stretched by the cost-of-living crisis, face reduced donations as individuals and businesses cut back. This strain is particularly concerning as mental health issues and domestic violence rates continue to rise. In the construction industry, the male suicide rate is 25.5 per 100,000 men, significantly higher than the national average of 17.4. Factors like long hours, job insecurity, and cultural stigma exacerbate the crisis, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and support. This festive season, we are contributing to Andy's Man Club and Women’s Aid. Andy’s Man Club provides vital peer support to men, aiming to tackle stigma and reduce suicide rates. Meanwhile, Women’s Aid supports survivors of domestic abuse, a crisis worsened by economic pressures. Both organizations embody the proactive, compassionate response we believe is necessary in these challenging times. Now more than ever, businesses must step up. While government policies shape the landscape, it’s our collective action—through donations, advocacy, and mental health initiatives—that can make a tangible difference. Let’s ensure that this season of giving brings hope to those who need it most. #MentalHealthMatters #CharitySupport #AndysManClub #WomensAid

We at LAI know how detrimental loneliness can be, and that it affects people of all ages, not just seniors. This week Marmalade Trust the UK's leading loneliness charity, is hosting #lonelinessawarenessweek. Launched in 2017, it aims to raise awareness for the impacts of loneliness in the UK and around the world. Visit their site to learn more about loneliness statistics, how to have conversations about loneliness and make connections, and common FAQs. There are resources for parents, the self-employed, and any of us that have, or are, experiencing feelings of loneliness in our lives. This year's theme is Random Acts of Connection. If you'd like to help fight loneliness in our senior communities and make a connection, see the impact LAI's volunteers have made since 2020, and how you can get involved. https://lnkd.in/eRmF8rFy https://lnkd.in/duaTDxf #randomactsofconnection #actsofconnection #connection #socialconnection #marmaladetrust #loneliness #combatloneliness #fightloneliness #makeaconnection #giveback #seniorloneliness #seniorisolation #makeadifference #microconnections #connectwithothers #dogood #bekind #lonelinessawarenessweek #lonelinessawareness #understandloneliness #forpurpose #lettersagainstisolation

Most (around three quarters) of the children and young people that SHiFT works with were open to Children’s Social Care when they began working with their SHiFT Guide. One of the four key outcomes for children and young people working with a SHiFT Guide is that they are safe and stable, and to achieve this we reach children and young people and stay with them wherever they are and wherever they go. We are not constrained by artificial or statutory barriers such as age limits, service thresholds or Host Organisation borders. This #nationalcareleaversweek We support Become's campaign to #endthecarecliff and the expectation of ‘independence’ asked of young people as they approach 18. "Young care leavers that Become supports have described that time as a “cliff edge” or “like being on death row, counting down the days” until their 18th birthday when their placements are abruptly stopped, and they are expected to become ‘independent’ overnight – often without the support that every young person needs to thrive." Become is the national charity for care-experienced children and young people. Read the report in full here: https://lnkd.in/eTekUKK8

Wastefree’s 2024 Beyond Blue Big Blue Table Cooking up a storm on the BBQ and getting some good conversations happening. We are so excited to host a Big Blue Table today in Mental Health Month. The idea is to host a meal, set a blue table, have meaningful conversations and raise funds to help those facing anxiety, depression, or suicide. Did you know that 45% of people in Australia will face a mental health condition in their lifetime? However, most will not seek support. Every dollar raised will go towards funding Beyond Blue’s Support Service. When someone feels alone or overwhelmed, or like they don’t know what to do next – no matter who they are, where they live, or what time of day it is – it’s vital that they know Beyond Blue is there for them. So please donate, and let’s talk about the important stuff while raising vital funds to support mental health in Australia. https://lnkd.in/guxyme_H WSG

Do you talk about death with your loved ones? Death is often a “taboo” topic, met with apprehension and discomfort. But having open and honest conversations about life and death is crucial, especially as one approaches their later years. Whether it’s sharing care wishes or planning for what comes next, being prepared makes all the difference. At Allkin Singapore, we believe that everyone deserves a life of dignity, from beginning to end. Unfortunately, too many seniors and their loved ones fail to plan for end-of-life, unaware of available options or overwhelmed by the planning process. Caught off guard, they are often faced with unfulfilled wishes and added stress. That’s why we created the Good-To-Go programme, to equip seniors with the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions about their end-of-life journey and confidently advocate for their well-being, in a familiar environment closer to home and at no cost. Swipe to find out how. 👉 Join us in enabling seniors to prepare for end-of-life with confidence: ❤ Donate at bit.ly/AllkinGTG 🙌 Volunteer at allkin.org.sg/volunteer *Donations of S$10 and above will be eligible for 250% tax deduction

Some people seem to have all the luck! I read here about working for charities and in the voluntary/third sector, and everyone seems to be having the most wonderful time, with excellent colleagues etc etc. Somehow the reality that I see in my support for local groups is so often different - people unable to keep their personal views out of their professional life; people forming cliques and so willing to exclude; and people definitely not on the same wavelength when supporting clients. I appreciate this may not be the norm for the majority, but unless we are willing to open our eyes to what is going on, then we put staff and volunteers at risk. Risk of leaving when they feel unsupported; risk of bullying when we don't see what is going on; and risk of losing funding when our policies are not strong enough. #workplacewellbeing #confidencebuilding #motivation #resilience #relationships #personaldevelopment #mentalhealth

As the cost of living remains high, many in our community are feeling the strain. Shirley, a local senior, shares: “As inflation keeps going up, my income gets smaller. Prices are only going to get higher, and our Social Security doesn’t go up that much to warrant all of the increases. It’s hard. We all have to do what we can to make it work.” This story isn't unique. Seniors like Shirley and many others in our community are facing tough choices at the grocery store. Recently released data from Feeding America reveals that the cost per meal in our area has surged to $3.96—an 11% increase from last year and a 31% increase from 2019. Give to Lincoln Day is here and every donation can make a bigger impact. When you donate through Give to Lincoln, you provide nourishment, hope and relief to our neighbors who are working to put food on the table. From now until May 29, all early Give to Lincoln gifts, up to $50,000, are being matched by generous Food Bank friends. This means that every dollar can help provide even more meals for neighbors in need. To read more stories like Shirley's, click the link in our comment.
