❗ Linklaters mentioned during President’s Biden visit to Angola. I was delighted to see Linklaters recognised during President Biden’s meeting with the leaders of Zambia, DRC, Angola, Tanzania, and CEO of the Africa Finance Corporation. President Biden's visit to Angola is a significant moment in US-Angola relations and Lusophone Africa regional development. As the one of first international law firms with an office in Portugal, our Linklaters Lisbon team is at the forefront of advising on landmark transactions in Angola and across Lusophone Africa. Beyond our integral role in the 🚉Lobito Rail Project across Angola and Zambia, we have advised on several notable projects, including: ✈️ Advising on the Cape Verde Airports Concession project financing for the expansion and operation of four airports and three aerodromes in Cape Verde. ⛽ The landmark US$11bn development and project financing of the Coral South FLNG, offshore Mozambique —at the time, Africa's largest ever project financing and the first ever project financing of a floating LNG facility. 🗨️ "Africa's role today is absolutely essential and can no longer be ignored. It holds roughly 30% of the world's unexploited mineral resources, making Africa crucial for identifying viable projects." ❗ Discover valuable insights from Aymeric Voisin, Mining Sector Co-Leader at Linklaters, shared during the EY panel on the risks and opportunities in the African mining sector in 2025. The webcast focuses on Africa's critical role in developing mining projects to secure essential minerals for the energy transition. Linklaters' Paris and Lisbon teams have successfully advised the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) on signing of two landmark agreements for the Zambia-Lobito Rail Project. Signed at the 79th UN General Assembly, these agreements advance an 800km rail line connecting Angola and Zambia. 🚉❗ 🌍 As the lead developer, AFC is collaborating with the US and EU and regional partners to strengthen the African critical mineral supply chain and, establish a crucial trade corridor from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. The project is set to deliver significant benefits, including a US$3 billion economic stimulus, a reduction of 300,000 tons in emissions annually, and the creation of over 1,250 jobs. The Linklaters team was led by Justin C. Faye and Francisco Ferraz de Carvalho, with support from Aymeric Voisin, Laura Nunes Vicente, Maria de Athayde Tavares, and Isabela Moraes Sarmento.
