Little Green Sock Project
Non-profit Organizations
Trafford charity, reducing the effects of poverty on children by reusing clothing and equipment
About us
At Little Green Sock Project, we believe every child deserves the basics to thrive. With a third of children in Greater Manchester living in poverty, and over 11,000 of those in Trafford, the need for support is greater than ever. We are a community-driven charity dedicated to making a difference for families facing financial hardship, ensuring no child goes without essential clothing and items. WHAT WE DO We harness the generosity of our local community to collect and redistribute quality pre-loved children's clothes and essentials. Working closely with referral partners like health visitors, foodbanks, and domestic violence refuges, we ensure that items reach the families who need them most—especially during times of crisis. OUR IMPACT -1,594 bundles distributed, supporting children and families across Greater Manchester. -1,147 children have received essential clothing and items, ensuring they have what they need to thrive. -947 parents have experienced reduced financial pressure, allowing them to focus on other critical needs. -Over £185,000 worth of items distributed, giving new life to perfectly good clothes and making a real difference in our community. -58% of our referrals support single parents, directly helping some of the most vulnerable families. -29% of our referrals are for families fleeing abuse, often with few belongings WHY IT MATTERS We’re passionate about more than just clothing kids—we’re fighting child poverty and promoting sustainability. By reusing and recycling, we’re not just easing financial burdens; we’re also protecting the planet for the next generation. Little Green Socks Project offers a practical, powerful way for our community to come together, help local families, and make a meaningful impact. Join us in making sure no child has to go without. Together, we can support local families, protect our environment, and create a brighter future for all.

HUGE Thank you to the Savannah Wisdom Foundation for their generous donation of £5000 towards the Save Our Baby Bank Campaign. Thank you for your dedication in supporting causes based around building stronger communities, reducing social inequality and creating a fairer society. Material deprivation and child poverty have life long consequences. From a new mum feeling isolated because she can't safely get out with her young children due to lack of pram, to a child without a safe place to sleep, affecting sleep quality and safety. Providing these basics through reuse ensures that families don't go without, and harnesses the power of community through preloved donations and volunteering, showing that everyone has a role to play in reducing child poverty. We're thrilled that Savannah Wisdom Foundation share our values #Saveourbabybank #Trafford #Littlegreensock #Funding #Support #communityaction

Little Green Sock Project reposted this
Well, how to make a softie like me cry… The South Trafford Health Visiting team sent us a gorgeous card signed by the team with examples of how we have helped the families they support. It was an absolute privilege to share this with the volunteers today, and the chocolates they sent with it! ‘Thank you for saving the day when I had twins who had nowhere to sleep!’ ‘Thank you for putting children first’ ‘Thank you for providing clothes and toys for a little boy who had no toys to play with’ And so many more! Ok, so I know we have a big impact, we supported 1000 children last year, some of them multiple times. Our referrals are up 79% compared to this time last year. They are just numbers though It’s the human impact that gets me every time. It’s feedback like this that gives me that little reminder of why I keep fighting to save our baby bank. It’s the mum who was sleeping on her landing because she didn’t want her little boy to fall down the stairs as they didn’t have a stairgate - until we stepped in It’s the mum who was struggling with single parenthood in a low income job, with a high private rent and struggling to put food on the table, but also needed school shoes. We made sure she didn’t have to make a choice between school shoes and food. It’s the mum who struggled to leave the house for 2 months after the birth of her baby, seriously affecting her mental health, because she didn’t have a pram that she could use for the baby and her 18 month old. We provided a double pram so she could get out and about with her family, and breathe. We’ve only got a few more weeks to Save Our Baby Bank, and your support could make that difference! #Saveourbabybank #Trafford #Littlegreensock #trafford #traffordcharity #donate

Did you know, Cllr Dolores O’Sullivan who was the Mayor of Trafford from 2023-2024 hosted a year of fundraising, and chose us as one of her charities as well as our friends over at TRAFFORD DOMESTIC ABUSE SERVICES and supporting the brilliant work of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières - USA Cllr O’Sullivan hosted fashion shows, wine tasting, tea parties and even WALKED ON FIRE! 🔥 We are delighted to have received £4877.04 this week, which we are going to be putting towards our Save Our Baby Bank Campaign! Tremendous effort Cllr O’Sullivan, thank you so so much for your support 🫶 We’ve now raised 55% of what we need to Save Our Baby Bank and not much time left. If your organisation can help with a pledge of financial support for the campaign in the new financial year, we’d love to hear from you.
