London's Best Airport - Which? 2024
About us
London City Airport (LCY) is London's most central airport, offering passengers safe, careful and speedy journeys to and from the capital. LCY is just a short hop from Canary Wharf, while the City of London can be reached in as little as 20 minutes on the DLR directly from the airport’s own station. The attractions of the West End are only another 10 minutes away. In 2019 we welcomed over 5 million passengers for the first time, many of whom were attracted by our convenient location and uniquely rapid transit through the airport – reaching their gate in under 20 minutes and getting out of the airport in as little as five. A Sustainable Future: Our mission is to fulfil the demands of an ever more connected world, while also improving our surrounding environment, community, and economy. We believe we can become a net zero emission airport by 2030. Given our size, our location and the nature of our route network and operation, we are ideally placed to help shape the next phase of aviation innovation in London and the UK. In 2019 we reached a significant milestone, being rated as Carbon Neutral for the operations we control by the respected Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. We are also working with industry partners like airlines and manufacturers to create an eco-system of collaboration that accelerates progress. Visit: sustainability.londoncityairport.com Serving East London: London City Airport is a major part of the local economy and is one of the largest private employers in Newham. Recognised by the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard, the airport pays employees at least the London Living Wage and recruits locally. As a long-term contributor to the community, we run a number of programmes to raise aspirations, inspire students and prepare local people for work. In 2019, over 1.5 million people from East London flew to and from London City Airport while our Community Fund donated over £75,000 to 30 local good causes and will do the same in 2020.

On Friday, we hosted over 500 east London students for our annual ‘STEM in Aviation Day’. The theme of this year’s event was the ‘Future of Flight’, focusing on how new technologies and innovations can deliver future solutions for the aviation sector and help reduce carbon emissions. Our Chief Financial Officer, Wilma Allan, welcomed the event, saying: “We’re proud to have hosted our seventh ‘STEM in Aviation Day’ for students across our local community in east London. This year’s event was our biggest to date, thanks to additional funding from the DfT and CAA’s Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund, which has helped us reach more local schools and develop toolkits for the students.” Thank you to all the schools and our industry partners - including Accenture, BA Cityflyer, Cirium, Embraer, GKN Aerospace, NATS and the University of East London - who joined us for a fantastic day. Thank you also to our judging panel, including James Asser, Labour MP for West Ham and Beckton, who said: “It’s great to be involved in London City Airport’s STEM in Aviation event for a fourth year and especially to be on the judging panel again. Today is a great opportunity for young people from diverse backgrounds to see that a career in STEM is a possibility. This event really engages with young people at secondary school level, providing opportunities and opening doors to further participation and possibly careers in engineering and aviation.” Full story here: https://lnkd.in/eSk-D7ba

London City Airport (LCY) is a founding member of the East London Growth Group, which has just released its first report. 📈 The report, authored by a former Treasury economist at WPI Strategy found that east London is the most popular region in the country to start a business, and LCY’s own borough of Newham has seen more SMEs founded than anywhere else in the country. 🛫 Our CEO, Alison FitzGerald, said: “This insightful report shows that east London is one of the best places in the UK to start and grow a business. The priority now is to work as a group to identify clear solutions for how we can capitalise on this momentum and unlock more opportunities for East London.” Sir Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham said: “I am delighted that Newham has been identified in this research as the most entrepreneurial place in the country. People who live in the borough – many with their roots in other parts of the world – respond to the challenges they face with energy, imagination and determination. This research finding provides good grounds for optimism about the future.” The Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber also endorsed the findings: "East London is filled with potential and the Mayor and I welcome this report which showcases the area’s entrepreneurial spirit. It is great to see the local ambition for growth in this part of the capital and along the Thames Estuary as we continue developing an exciting new Growth Plan, and building a fairer and more prosperous London for everyone.” Read more in The Sun (and full report in the comments section): https://lnkd.in/et3R23CH

We operate a three-tiered Sound Insulation Scheme, which provides different levels of sound insulation works to eligible properties where dwellings meeting the appropriate criteria. The scheme operates within a specific noise contour around the airport which represents the noise levels in that area. Current noise contours can be found in the London City Airport Annual Performance Report. Find out more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eQcUNWTY 💚 #LoveLCY ✈️#FlyLCY
