🚺 63% of Loowatt customers are women. This International Women’s Day, we’re reflecting on why that matters. For women and girls, access to a safe, clean toilet isn’t just about convenience—it’s about dignity, security, and freedom. It means: 💡 Feeling safe when using the toilet, day or night. 💡 Better health and hygiene for themselves and their families. 💡 More opportunities to work, study, and live without limitations. At Loowatt Ltd, Kaloola & Loowatt MG, we’re not just selling toilets—we’re creating sanitation solutions that work for the people who need them most. Because when sanitation works for women, it works for everyone. Happy International Women's Day! 💚
About us
Loowatt is a revolutionary waterless toilet system that creates local economies around waste treatment. Our toilet system saves water and produces energy—the opposite of today’s toilet status quo. Quick to set up and simple to service and operate, the Loowatt system is a closed-loop human waste treatment solution. Having gained support from the InnovationRCA Incubator in 2010, we have built an impressive multidisciplinary network of collaborators, and won a Grand Challenges Explorations grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2011 to “create the next generation of sanitation technologies.” We are an interdisciplinary team of designers, engineers and businesspeople, committed to creating a paradigm shift in sanitation. The system: The toilet uses a unique sealing mechanism to package feces and urine into an odourless container, within a recyclable or compostable liner. The containers are collected and emptied into an anaerobic digester. The digester converts human waste into natural gas and fertilizer, commodities that pay back the community. Loowatt system implementations are currently underway in Madagascar, Phillippines and the UK. Benefits: - Innovative design provides high-standard toilet experience - Hygienic and odour-free - Treats pathogens present in human waste, producing clean fertilizer - Saves water with its patented waterless flush technology Find us on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram: @Loowatt Follow our story on Youtube: Loowatt Ltd.

🚨 Loowatt MG Responds to #Madagascar Floods 🚨 Antananarivo has been hit hard by heavy rains, causing devastating floods and sanitation challenges for vulnerable communities. In response, Loowatt MG has deployed six emergency toilets in partnership with Planète Urgence, reaching an estimated 1,200 displaced people across two locations. This critical intervention is helping prevent disease spread and maintain dignity for those affected. As climate-related disasters intensify, we continue to demonstrate how innovative sanitation solutions can support communities in crisis. We’re proud of our team’s resilience and commitment during these challenging times. cc Rindra Virginia Andry

It's WORLD TOILET DAY! 🚽 Quite literally the biggest day of the calendar for us! Here are a few pics from the #WorldToiletDay celebrations in the Loowatt Ltd family this week! 📸 Kaloola team handpainting a toilet at Thandanani Creche 📸 Loowatt Sarl Madagascar was honoured to participate in the WTD celebrations, on November 15th, hosted by the Ministry of Wash; presenting our mission and our unique toilet system to stakeholders like USAID, CARE International, WaterAid, UNICEF and other global leaders in sanitation; who earlier visited the Loowatt MG office and treatment site. Virginia Gardiner said: "The theme of World Toilet Day 2024 is ‘A Place for Peace.’ This idea reminds me of one of the most vivid customer testimonials we’ve ever received, when a home customer in Madagascar said, “Now I can even read magazines in the toilet.” How are you celebrating?
