Since the escalation of violence in Lebanon, female migrant domestic workers face heightened vulnerability, especially with regard to sexual and reproductive health and rights (#SRHR). In this article, Jasmin Lilian Diab reveals the results of the Institute for Migration Studies at the Lebanese American University’s needs assessment of 24 shelters in Lebanon that expose how SRHR remains under-prioritised, leaving women without essential health care, contraception, or protection from gender-based violence.

Between Big Ideas and Small Possibilities: Pathways Through the Future of Yemen. Exciting opportunity from the LSE Middle East Centre The workshop "From Past and Present to Future: Pathways Towards Achieving an Ideal Between Reality – The Possible in Yemen" on 24 April 2025 draws together researchers and practitioners as they explore pathways for peace, sustainable governance and the promotion of economic stability, and social development, as well. Four key themes will be addressed in this workshop: 🔹Peace — How to mediate and build peace more effectively 🔹 Governance: Understanding local and national governance frameworks 🔹 Economy: Yemen's economy, humanitarian action and environment 🔹 Society — Impact of culture, gender, education and ideology This is why LSE wants to hear from researchers — especially those based in my beloved Yemen. This is an opportunity to showcase work that ties Yemen's history together with pragmatic and compelling ways forward for the country. Some papers will even have the chance to get published! ✍️ 📅 Due Date for Proposals: 2 December 2024 To submit proposals or for further information, write to mec.events@lse.ac.uk. Our last event of the term will discuss the online exhibition and research project 'Bridging Identities: The Cultural Odyssey of Kurdistani Jews' with Bahar Baser, Mesut Alp, Dugyu Atlas and Moayad Assaf. This project sheds light on this community's past through memories of the homeland they left behind as they migrated to Israel/Palestine, and reveals if and how the markers of Kurdishness are transmitted to the next generations.
