Today, after the weekend of full Black Friday offers, is a time for giving. Organisations working for beneficial social change can make a difference - here is an example from Luton.

Following World Sustainable Transport Day, we at Luton Rising are proud to reflect on the transformative steps being taken by our airport, London Luton Airport (LLA), toward achieving Net Zero for airport emissions by 2040. Through a multi-million-pound investment in sustainable transportation, LLA is accelerating its commitment to decarbonisation. Key initiatives include: Sustainable Car Park Transfer Buses: Powered by ISCC-certified hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 90%. Transitioning Airside Vehicles to Low-Carbon Alternatives: By 2024, nearly two-thirds of LLA’s operational fleet will be electric or running on HVO. Renewable Energy and Efficiency Initiatives: Developing on-site renewables, phasing out natural gas, and improving energy efficiency across operations. These changes are set to reduce LLA’s emissions by nearly 15% by the end of this year, with a target for a fully low-carbon fleet by 2030. As David Vazquez, Head of Sustainability at LLA, explains: "All aspects of our sustainability strategy are underpinned by collaboration, and I’m grateful to teams across the business for embedding environmental and social responsibility into their daily roles." At Luton Rising, we believe in leading by example, demonstrating how infrastructure and innovation can align with sustainability to drive meaningful change. An illustration of this point is the electrically powered Luton DART shuttle service, which, by encouraging rail travel, reduces the environmental impact of journeys to and from the airport and congestion on surrounding roads. Through collaboration with industry partners and our community, we’re not just supporting tourism – we’re shaping its future. As travellers, professionals, and global citizens, we have a responsibility to make choices that align with these values.
