Over the last 18 months, we have been on a journey to transform the services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. This has included an innovative, large scale recruitment drive, a new service structure - which has included the development of a new SEND quality assurance team, a strong engagement model - and the development of a groundbreaking induction and training programme which our staff have valued. These initiatives have been co-ordinated to deliver improvements to the council’s statutory SEND services as part of the impactful workforce transformation programme Making SEND Everyone’s Business and our innovative Hertfordshire SEND Academy. We’re delighted that our efforts to drive forward improvements with these initiatives have been recognised by being shortlisted in this year’s Local Government Chronicle’s awards in the Children’s Services category. These improvements are helping to ensure better experiences for children and young people with special educational needs, and their families, when seeking support to help them thrive in education. While we are proud of this work and the progress it has enabled, we know that it will take time for the impact to be felt widely by families. We remain committed to continuous improvement and ensuring the best possible outcomes for children, young people and the families we serve. We are pleased to announce the Shortlist for the 2025 LGC Awards. https://lnkd.in/eAZTgNW7 Congratulations to all of our finalists and a big thank you to everyone that took the time and effort to enter. This was another record breaking year with close to 1,000 entries. The judges were very impressed with the extremely high standard of entries that demonstrated outstanding practice as well as cutting-edge innovations. The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a specific judging panel made up of senior and influential figures within local government. LGC editor Sarah Calkin said: “We received almost 1,000 entries to the LGC Awards 2025, making it another record-breaking year and meaning all those on the shortlist should be extremely proud to have made the cut. A huge thank you to our judging panels of senior council officers who have tirelessly sifted through all the entries on top of extremely demanding day jobs. “At a time when many councils are embarking on huge change, it is more important than ever to take a moment to recognise the massive difference local government makes to the communities it serves and celebrate the teams and individuals going the extra mile to do so. “It’s brilliant to see the whole local government family represented on this year’s shortlist – from town councils to combined authorities – as well as all four nations of the UK. Best of luck to all of those shortlisted.” **The winners of the LGC Awards will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on Wednesday 11 June at Grosvenor House, London - this is an evening not to be missed!** Why attend the awards ceremony? • Be inspired and learn from others who demonstrate best practice in their roles • Highlight your organisation's commitment to the excellent services you provide • See how you can help move your organisation forward • Say thank you to staff and boost morale • Network with 1,200+ local authority professionals as they celebrate their achievements and you celebrate yours!
