  • 🎙️ "What decision are you going to make? A values-based decision or a feelings-based decision?" Over the past few months, while recording Mastering Change, we’ve had the privilege of hearing powerful stories from doctors, activists, researchers, and survivors – each committed to transforming how we understand and heal trauma. These conversations have been inspiring, humbling, and, at times, deeply emotional, but they’ve all reinforced one truth: connection is the catalyst for change. In our very first episode, "From Addict to Neuroscientist: Rewriting Your Story Through Values & Resilience With Dr. Brian Pennie," Dr. Pennie – neuroscientist, former heroin addict, and founder of Change is Possible – shares his incredible journey from addiction to recovery. He dives into how trauma shapes our values, our relationships, and our decisions, offering a practical framework for choosing courage over fear and realigning with what truly matters. Whether you're on your own healing journey or working to create change in your community, this episode offers inspiration, tools, and hope. 👉 Listen now to be part of this essential conversation. New episodes release every Tuesday. #MasteringChange #Podcast #TraumaHealing #ValuesOverFear #Resilience #MentalHealth

  • Have you ever noticed that fear sometimes lingers even when there’s no clear threat? Janina Fisher's concept of “Fright without Solution” examines how unresolved trauma can continue to shape our physical and emotional responses long after the original event has passed. In today’s evolving conversation on mental health, this perspective offers a nuanced look at anxiety and trauma. It highlights the subtle yet persistent ways in which our past experiences can influence our present, inviting a richer dialogue about healing, vulnerability, and the complexities of resilience. See Janina Fisher live at this year’s conference – super early bird tickets are currently available. #FrightWithoutSolution #TraumaAwareness #MentalHealth

  • "The events are not the path to healing. The path to healing is dealing with the fear, the shame, the tendency to go invisible, the sense of painful loneliness and heartbreak.” – Janina Fisher In her talk at Masters Events 2024, Janina Fisher explored the manifestations of traumatic attachment, revealing how past wounds shape our relationships, often without us realising. Common Patterns of Traumatic Attachment: • Quick Attachments – A deep yearning for closeness can lead to forming bonds rapidly. • Push-Pull Dynamic – As relationships develop, there’s an impulse to either run or fight. • Fear of Abandonment – This fuels both difficulty with commitment and intense clinging. • Relationship Phases – Things start well ➝ Ambivalence sets in ➝ Fault-finding begins ➝ Pushing the person away. • Need for Reassurance – Seeking constant proof that others care. • Struggles with Intimacy & Boundaries – Either too much or too little emotional closeness.Intense Emotional Reactions • Small interactions can trigger outsized responses • Hypervigilance – Overanalyzing what others say: “What did you mean by that? Are you judging me?” • Destructive Entitlement – Feeling that past harm justifies expecting others to make up for it. • Control Struggles – Relationships become battles for dominance. • Blame Cycle – We either blame ourselves or we blame the other person without noticing it’s the manifestations of the trauma When these patterns play out in our relationships, they don’t feel like trauma – they feel like truth. The push and pull, the mistrust, the need for reassurance – it all seems justified in the moment. But as Janina explains, traumatic attachment isn’t about the present, it’s about the past replaying itself, again and again.

  • This Christmas will be my first without my dad, who passed away in June after a courageous battle with cancer. At just 68, he left us far too soon. While carrying on his legacy gives me strength, the ache of his absence feels especially sharp as the holidays approach. Earlier this year, I moved back into the family home I inherited from him. This house, filled with memories of shared Christmases, is both a comfort and a reminder of the void his passing has left. Navigating this season without him will be difficult, but I’m fortunate to work with leading voices on grief who’ve shared wisdom that I hope also supports you. Julia Samuel describes grief as a “shape-shifter,” adapting around significant dates. In Grief Works, she explains how special days bring waves of loss. The first Christmas without a loved one, she notes, is often intense—not worse, but somehow different. David Kessler, FACHE, joining us in Oxford in 2025, speaks about the holidays as a chance to mourn and also choose how we honour loved ones. For me, carrying my dad’s spirit forward through Swedish Christmas traditions brings both comfort and sadness. If this season feels difficult, know you’re not alone. The holidays are a time of complex emotions, when joy and sorrow often sit side by side. As Julia reminds us, “Grief is the price we pay for love.” Whether keeping old traditions, creating new ones, or taking it day by day, every approach is valid. Let’s honour both our losses and our love. As we close out the year, thank you for being part of our Masters Events community. We hope this season brings moments of peace and connection amidst challenges. May you honour memories, cherish loved ones, and enter the New Year open to healing and growth. Sending all the love, Araminta Jonsson & the Masters Events Team

  • "In the womb, there’s no separation. You don’t have to breathe, eat, or do anything to exist—you simply are. This state of effortless being is our first experience of wholeness." – Dr Dan Siegel 🌟 In his talk at Masters Events 2024 | Oxford 2024, Dr Dan Siegel shared a powerful hypothesis: wholeness—the sense of being complete and connected—exists in our implicit memory, starting as early as the womb. He describes it as a state of "effortless being," where there’s no separation between ourselves and the world around us. Trauma, however, can disrupt this innate sense of connection, leaving us fragmented. Even if we’ve never consciously experienced wholeness, our implicit memory holds the blueprint. Siegel explored how understanding and working with implicit memory can help us reconnect to this deeper sense of self—one that’s always been within us. What are your thoughts? #Wholeness #ImplicitMemory #TraumaHealing #DanSiegel #MastersEvents #MentalHealth #SelfAwarenes

  • “The pain is so big, you feel nothing at all..." - John Lennon 🌟 In his talk at Masters Events | Oxford 2024, Dr. Gabor Maté explored how trauma disconnects us from our true selves. Healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken—it’s about reconnecting to The Self that we’ve become estranged from. 🤍 Missed Gabor this year? Join his full-day workshop immersion at Masters Events 2025! • “It’s not just therapists who heal people. Teachers and youth workers transform how children feel about themselves, often becoming attachment figures." - Katriona O'Sullivan For Katriona, one teacher’s belief in her potential changed everything. That simple act of encouragement set off a ripple effect, helping her rise above her challenges and shape a brighter future. 🌱 This is the power of educators and all those who work with children: their influence goes far beyond lessons and classrooms. They have the capacity to heal, to inspire, and to transform how children see themselves and the world. 💛 Who in your life saw something in you when you couldn’t?
