The time for change is now! As part of our #NameTheBias campaign, People Like Us is urging everyone to take a stand against structural inequality by writing to their MPs and demanding action to close the ethnicity pay gap. At a time when DEI practices are under attack, with major corporations like Meta dismantling their diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, it’s more important than ever to hold decision-makers accountable. These moves signal a worrying trend where economic pressures and political narratives are being used as excuses to step back from the fight for equity. But progress doesn’t happen without action—and that starts with us. Did you know ethnic minority candidates have to submit 60% more applications just to land an interview compared to their white counterparts? This isn’t just a statistic—it’s a call to action. MPs need to hear from YOU. Your voice can make a difference. Start by writing to your MP today with our step-by-step guide: (scroll to the bottom of the page: https://lnkd.in/eiarYQjm) Together, we can push back against these setbacks and advocate for fairer pay policies and systemic reforms, including mandatory ethnicity pay gap reporting. A celebration of Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic media and marcomms professionals
About us
Come and meet People Like Us. People Like Us is more than an ethnic networking event, it’s a gathering for and celebration of Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic media and marcomms professionals. We hope this simple gesture, of allowing the time and space to celebrate ourselves will nudge our respective industries forward. Who are we? We're two brothers (Sheeraz Gulsher & Darain Faraz) who work in comms and have decided to launch a networking group for minority ethnic professionals working in media and marketing communications. What is it? A quarterly social gathering to celebrate the work of media and marcomms professionals from minority ethnic backgrounds. Whether you’re a PR, a marketer, journalist or expert in social media, we’d love for you to join us for an evening of drinks, nibbles and general good times. Why? The lack of diversity in our industry is not a new problem, and while we’re here hoping to address it, we want to do a bit more than just that; we want to have fun doing it. At this event, there will be no panel discussions. No bloody white papers. It’s a group of people having a few drinks (non-alcoholic available of course), making connections and celebrating the great work that People Like Us do. Yesterday was a Historic Day at the House of Lords and Portcullis House, where we had the privilege of hosting two packed-out events inviting MPs, media, influencers, and change-makers to support the launch of the People Like Us #NameTheBias campaign. We amplified the call for action on a timeline for the introduction of ethnicity pay gap reporting. It’s time for the UK to take this issue seriously, ensuring fair pay for everyone, regardless of background. This pivotal event brought policymakers and leaders together to discuss tangible ways to expedite change. A huge thank you to Sojan Joseph MP, Uma Kumaran MP and Baroness Uddin for their support in driving this vital conversation forward. Thank you to the brilliant team for leading excellent talks Felicity Hoggett, Joey Green, Tom Heys, Y.A Poet (Yasmin Ali). Let’s keep the momentum going—write to your MP today and demand action! Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable future. Link: https://lnkd.in/eiarYQjm #EthnicityPayGap #PeopleLikeUs #NameTheBias

Thanks The Drum for spotlighting our campaign as #AdOfTheDay. Couldn't be prouder of the amazing collaboration with Worth Your While & new—land on this super important project. 🙌🏽
People with ethnically diverse names have to send 60% more applications to get a job interview 😳 People Like Us and Worth Your While work together to produce this moving short film that highlight the struggles of job seekers from ethnicity minorities. It made Ad Of The Day on The Drum: https://lnkd.in/eEGBmHsW 🥁 #Ethnicitypaygap

It's campaign launch day! We've been waiting to share this with the world and couldn't be prouder to have this important piece of work go live today: Ethnicity Pay Gap Day. In case you missed it... Non-white workers in the UK continue to face systemic inequalities that affect their wages and career opportunities. In July 2024, after years of advocacy by a raft of organisations including People Like Us, the inclusion of ethnicity pay gap reporting in a draft bill during the King’s Speech was a major step forward. But progress is too slow, and the financial harm faced by ethnic minority workers demands action now. Our #NameTheBias campaign exposes the biases ingrained in hiring and beyond. From recruitment to promotion, these biases perpetuate inequality. We need mandatory reporting and broader reforms to dismantle these barriers. It's time to #NameTheBias. We need you to get involved—let’s make the change we want to see. Watch and share this video and help spread the message: https://lnkd.in/dK5Sq4GV None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary support and kindness of our agency partners and friends who have largely worked on this project pro bono or at massively reduced rates, largely because they believe in the cause as much as we do.
