DON'T LET SUMMER HEAT FUEL TROUBLE! As the summer heat rises.... So can the risk of problems with your stored fuel! Did you know that high temperatures can accelerate fuel contamination? Problems such as microbial growth, water accumulation and degradation can result. For example.... - INCREASED MICROBIAL GROWTH: Hot weather creates a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi in your fuel tank. These microbes can break down fuel, creating sludge and contaminants. - WATER ACCUMULATION: Heat can cause condensation to form inside your tank, leading to water accumulating in your fuel. Water contamination can lead to corrosion, engine problems, and reduced fuel efficiency. - DEGRADATION: Over time, exposure to high heat can accelerate the breakdown of the fuel components, reducing its lubricity and cetane rating (important for ignition). This can lead to poorer engine performance and potential breakdowns. THE CONSEQUENCES... - DECREASED ENGINE PERFORMANCE: Contaminated fuel can lead to reduced power output, increased fuel consumption, and rough idling. - INCREASED VAPOURISATION: Diesel fuel has a volatile component that can evaporate more quickly at high temperatures. This can cause fuel loss and potentially create flammable vapours around the storage tank. - EQUIPMENT DOWNTIME: In severe cases, contaminated fuel can cause complete equipment failure, leading to costly downtime.
