  • 🎃 The scariest thing this Halloween? Drilling for more oil and gas in the middle of a climate crisis. Today we cooked up some family fun with a serious message for @EquinorUK: #StopRosebank. Thank you to everyone who joined us in booing new oil and gas! ✊ ADD YOUR VOICE TO THE FIGHT! Use our digital tool to send messages to the Equinor CEO and key Norwegian politicians, demanding they ditch their nasty tricks and treat our kids to a safe climate instead. https://lnkd.in/e4HkqV54 Rosebank won’t do anything to lower our energy bills, save jobs or make our energy supply more secure. Just burning the fossil fuels in existing UK oil and gas fields will contribute to pushing us past “safe” climate limits. The climate crisis is accelerating before our eyes, with those communities and countries who have done the least to contribute to carbon pollution being hit first and worst. Adding new reserves, like Rosebank, will shatter UK climate targets and push us closer to more parts of our world becoming uninhabitable. Equinor is the Norwegian state-owned energy company, Britain’s biggest gas supplier and the company behind Rosebank. Equinor has a choice: accelerate the just energy transition or keep holding us back and wrecking our precious planet, and threatening all our kids' futures. We already have renewable energy solutions - now we need our governments and companies like Equinor to make it happen. This is a pivotal time in the fight to stop Rosebank and other new oil and gas projects in the UK, for two reasons: The Stop Rosebank court case is starting its next phase in November, with a strong chance of ending the project once and for all and setting a precedent for future fossil fuel projects. The UK government is entering a consultation period on new oil and gas which could end these polluting projects for good. The British Government needs to know it has public support for a fast, fair switch to renewable energy. And Equinor and the Norwegian Government need to know we don’t want any more of their dirty oil and gas. 🎭: Chryso Chellun #NoNewFossilFuels #InsureOurFutureNOW

  • 🌍 ANALYSIS | Government support for fossil fuels totalled $1.5 trillion in 2023, the latest data compiled by IISD shows. That is the second highest figure on record after 2022, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sparked an energy crisis. Despite falling oil and gas prices, subsidies for fossil fuel use stayed above $1 trillion. Nearly a third of the total support locked in further fossil fuel production, which is incompatible with a 1.5C global warming limit. Rich countries spent more on fossil fuel subsidies ($378 billion) than they have committed to mobilize as climate finance for the developing world in 2035 ($300 billion). Subsidy reform can free up fiscal space for domestic priorities and meeting international climate finance commitments. There is a huge opportunity to shift financial flows from fossil fuels to clean energy in 2025, at national level and through international negotiations. Governments should agree to stop subsidies for fossil fuel expansion, end public finance to fossil fuels, pivot state-owned enterprises to clean energy, and support people and children, not dirty fuels. • Want to gift your kids renewables but can't fit a wind turbine under the tree? We have a solution! It's also an absolutely pivotal moment in British climate campaigning. The UK Government's consultation on the future of North Sea oil and gas ends on January 8th 2025. With enough support, the government might rule out any future drilling in the North Sea. Public pressure is always important but for this consultation, it's critical. We went all out for children everywhere this Christmas 🎅😉 with some BIG gifts and an even bigger message: a liveable future is the greatest gift - no new North Sea oil and gas. Let’s make the switch to renewables for all children — and for the generations yet to come. Sign this crucial petition: https://lnkd.in/eRQY-QuT All props were made by our prop maker, Chryso Chellun. #NoNewFossilFuels #NoNewOilandGas #StopRosebank

  • We're back with our oil and gas myth busting - part two! Perfect for answering those tricky climate questions that might come up around the Christmas dinner table. Misinformation about oil and gas is widespread, perpetuated by the oil industry itself and the political parties that benefit from it. But together, we can set the record straight. 📣 Learn the facts. Share the truth. The devastating impacts of oil and gas on our climate are undeniable. More drilling will only deepen the crisis we’re already living through: extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and biodiversity loss. The good news? We have the tools to stop the suffering that so many communities endure. Renewable energy isn’t just a solution—it’s the key to true energy security, meeting global energy demands and creating good North Sea jobs. It’s time to bust these myths, shift investments, and demand bold action to end the fossil fuel era. Insurance is supposed to offer us protection when we need it most. Instead... 🚨Too many insurance companies are fuelling the climate crisis that threatens us all. 💰AND they are charging more or withdrawing coverage from communities most vulnerable to extreme weather. Insure Our Future Global has released its annual Scorecard report examining the climate policies of 30 leading insurance companies. *Key findings* ❌ Over a third of weather-related insured losses can be attributed to climate change, amounting to approximately $600 billion over the past two decades. ❌ For 15 major insurers, these losses exceed earnings from fossil fuel underwriting. ✅ Some companies such as Generali, Munich Re & Zurich Insurance have set more responsible policies. ❌ But most - Lloyd's of London 👀 - are falling badly short. Voluntary corporate action clearly is not working. We need to persuade regulators to reform the insurance industry. Please take note Tulip Siddiq Rt Hon Rachel Reeves! It makes good business sense, many insurance employees want regulation of their industry, and it's the right thing to do by our all children.  It's #WithinOurPower Mothers Rise Up Our Kids' Climate Global Optimism Katharine Hayhoe Harriet Shugarman Risalat Khan Peter Bosshard Sean Wright Kamila Kadzidlowska Will Attenborough Ariel Le bourdonnec Isabelle L'Héritier Claire Brinn Nick Oldridge

  • The fight for climate justice requires bold action from every corner of society—including the insurance industry. Here’s why: 1. Without insurance, fossil fuel projects can’t go ahead. 2. The use of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas) is detrimental to our environment. 3. Climate disasters are costing people and insurance companies billions. The insurance industry has the power to drive meaningful climate action. Fossil fuel premiums account for less than 2% of insurers’ total premiums, yet the climate risks fuelled by fossil projects are driving massive costs. These climate-driven losses are growing faster than other weather losses. By stepping away from fossil fuel projects, insurers can stop passing these costs on to the public and instead accelerate a just transition to clean energy. Protecting our planet protects everyone’s future—including the insurance industry itself. It’s time to insure hope, not harm. Find out more in Insure Our Future Global’s latest Scorecard report: https://lnkd.in/dKzETj5e #ClimateJustice #JustTransition #SustainableFuture #InsureOurFutureNOW
