Publishing parental leave is a small, cost-free change for businesses that encourages a race to the top for employers and helps tackle the gender pay gap. We’re delighted that Marks and Spencer have published their parental leave policies, and will be the first major employer to host our #PublishParentalLeave kite mark, demonstrating their commitment to helping potential & existing employees make informed decisions about their future.

Great to see two longstanding Mumsnet campaign asks included in today's Competition and Markets Authority recommendations on the infant formula market. When we surveyed parents, we found that a third of them didn't know that there are strict rules governing the composition of formula, meaning they pay higher prices for nothing more than branding. Providing more information at the point of sale will help inform and empower parents. And nearly 60% of Mumsnet users agree that parents should be able to use loyalty points or vouchers towards the purchase of formula milk - something that doesn't just ease the financial burden, but helps dispel the stigma some women feel. We hear frequently from parents struggling with the cost of formula milk - we hope governments across the UK will implement the CMA's recommendations and help alleviate the financial pressure on parents. #infantformula #infantformulamarket
Our infant formula study finds that a combination of factors is leading to poor outcomes for parents, who could be saving around £300 a year by switching to a lower priced brand. We heard concerns that parents on lower incomes are disproportionately affected due to higher rates of formula feeding. Our final recommendations include: - standardised infant formula packaging in hospitals - providing clear information to parents - banning the advertising of follow-on formula Read more: https://lnkd.in/eweC4rHM #InfantFormula

We hear time and again on Mumsnet from women who are suffering from debilitating health issues and struggling to access the care they need. Many of these women have fought for years for appropriate diagnoses and treatment, despite reporting symptoms and having multiple conversations with health care practitioners. This is not only a problem for individual women affected - it has major consequences for the economy. In a recent survey, we found that: 🔴 65% percent of Mumsnet users feel the NHS doesn’t take women’s health issues seriously. 🔴 50% of Mumsnet users have experienced dismissive, discriminatory or harmful treatment when using the NHS. 🔴 Nearly one in five users had reduced their working hours or left the workforce entirely because of women’s health related issues. Mumsnet users tell us that they feel in many cases difficulties in seeking diagnoses and treatment are driven by misogyny, with women’s pain seen as less serious or valid than that of men, and women’s health concerns dismissed, belittled or ignored. A MUMSNET survey commissioned by OSA, Association of British Dispensing Opticians and College of Optometrists will reveal what parents understand about their children's eye health and vision correction. Data mining of conversations over 5 years on the Mumsnet site - which attracts 9m unique users each month - was used to help set the questions. Listen to Mumsnet researchers being interviewed about the findings on the OSA stand at 100% Optical Monday 3 March at 1.00pm and watch out for results coming very soon.... https://lnkd.in/eytB2YYw

🗣️ "As a society, we have sleepwalked into a situation which is harming kids, harming families, but working out handsomely for a handful of gigantic tech companies. Their business models, which rely on capturing as much of our attention as possible so they can gather our data and sell it to advertisers, is fundamentally misaligned with the needs of healthy child development. On average, 8-12 year olds in the UK are spending 21 hours a week on their smartphone – equivalent to a part time job – blocking them from exploring the real world and relationships around them..." 📱 We're delighted to share our latest Rage Against the Screen guest post from Smartphone Free Childhood.
