We're delighted to announce Dr Orla McCourt and Prof Abi Fisher as the first recipients of the Myeloma UK Survivorship Grant! Their ground-breaking work will dig deeper into the impact of receiving complex and distressing information during clinical trials on people’s quality of life. They explain why now is the time to focus on survivorship and how this research could pave the way for more sensitive and compassionate doctor-patient communication: https://lnkd.in/ezZ5mf_G #Myeloma #MultipleMyeloma #MyelomaUK #MyelomaResearch

Our latest highlighted volunteer is Dr Simon Stern! 🧡 Simon has collaborated with us for several years, working on projects related to early diagnosis, our Clinical Services Excellence Programme (CSEP), and general training and guidance for healthcare professionals. In the coming years, Simon’s next big focus is the development of the Precursor to myeloma programme, looking at conditions such as MGUS and smouldering myeloma. Simon said: “When I first started my career, the only myeloma treatments we had available were chemotherapy drugs with potentially significant side effects. Targeted immune therapies are the future of myeloma treatment, and I’m looking forward to these being accessible to more patients through clinical trials moving the drugs to earlier in the treatment pathway. It’s an exciting time and I hope my continuing involvement with Myeloma UK will benefit patients and their families”. Thank you so much to Simon for being our highlighted volunteer! Talking to loved ones about myeloma can be challenging and feel overwhelming. However, it can also help you find the support you need at home, at work, and from your healthcare team. In this month’s blog, we answer some of the questions you ask our Myeloma Infoline team about talking to friends and family about myeloma: https://brnw.ch/21wPfWZ #Myeloma #MyelomaUK #BloodCancer

Each year the American Society of Hematology (ASH) holds its annual conference in early December. We have been attending for more than a decade and will be there this year, sharing our research and bringing back the best and most up-to-date knowledge that will inform our work here in the UK. Sharing this data at ASH means we can drive decisions on what research is conducted and how. It means that we are bringing your voice to the world’s largest scientific gathering on blood cancers. Read more about ASH in this blog from our Director of Research and Advocacy, Shelagh McKinlay: https://brnw.ch/21wPc0u

This Christmas, you can help families have more days defined by fun and joy, not by myeloma. Jodie doesn’t know what she would’ve done without the support you and others make possible. She’s a single mum and her son Alfie was just 10 when she was diagnosed. “The support I received means I can concentrate on making the most of every moment with my son Alfie.” A gift from you today, would help fund vital research, fight for access to treatments and provide the support that mothers like Jodie rely on: https://brnw.ch/21wOSze
