BBC News has analysed Government data which shows that 90% of children excluded from primary schools in the last five years are children with SEND. But what’s not talked about enough is that exclusions often happen because children not getting the right support that would give them the chance to thrive at school. Exclusions cause long-term damage to children’s learning, wellbeing and mental health. Families are waiting far too long for EHCP support while children are left struggling in the classroom. The Government’s SEND reform must urgently address this. Every autistic child deserves an engaging, safe and supportive educational environment that meets their needs.
