Great article on Positivity and Ambition Our relationship with the Scottish Business Network community has been critical to establishing, developing and now growing Net Zero Nation. We look forward to being beneficiaries and supporters of the next stage of the development of SBN. As together we face the battle to address Climate Change maintaining a belief that we can overcome this challenge is critically important. #NetZero #Climate Change #ScotlandIsNow
I chose to be positive Yesterday I was told that my "positivity" and "belief" in what can be achieved is my greatest asset. A lovely comment to be sure and one I am delighted to accept. But can I share a secret, I am not a naturally positive person. In any new activity, I see the potential problems, understand the challenges ahead, and feel the fear of "doing something" new. It would be so easy to "pass", to curl up on the couch, to "not bother" to listen to the negative voices. But, my curiosity, my desire to help others, my "purpose on this planet" kicks in and I take the first steps on a new venture. I feel the fear, I understand the risks but I proceed because I know in my heart (and after much discussion with trusted advisers) that this is the right thing to do. In January we will announce the most significant expansion to the services, capabilities and goals of Scottish Business Network as we transform our organisation. Over the last six months I, with the support of an army of volunteers have been involved in an exercise to challenge what we can achieve, raise our ambition and design a plan to deliver this. We have reviewed what initiatives have worked as we engage with the global Scottish family and which have not, what opportunities we see on the horizon and how we can capitalise on these while managing the risks and challenges. When I think of what comes next I hear the words of US President Robert F. Kennedy" from 1962 "𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧. 𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭, 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐨𝐨." We will not go to the moon but we will take on the next phase of our development understanding that it will be hard, and challenging but that the goal is worthy of our ambition. I look forward to sharing our plans with you and hope you will join us on this mission.
