The culture of interviews without job descriptions, clear agendas, or well-planned processes is still prevalent. A lack of planning and understanding can determine whether a candidate is able to perform well in an interview and demonstrate their true abilities. Without clear job roles and descriptions, there is a genuine risk of hiring someone who is not a good fit for the role, as there may be little or no discussion during or before the interview about what the position actually entails. While it might seem like a time-saving approach, if we end up needing to rehire, not only have we not saved time, but we've also incurred additional costs. Although this article focuses on adaptations that HR teams can implement to help educate hiring managers and make interview processes more accessible for autistic individuals, these adaptations can be universally beneficial for everyone we interview. #learninganddevelopment #leadership #inclusion

On a mission to ensure that Autism and ADHD in females are recognized and supported in all organizations.
About us
NeuroSpecial is committed to educating & inspiring organizations to recognize the unique challenges faced by women living with autism and ADHD, and how these impact both employees and the workplace. Autism and ADHD can look different in women than in men, which often makes it harder for them to get diagnosed. Girls with autism might not show the same social difficulties as boys do; instead, they might "mask" their behaviour by imitating what others do to blend in. This makes it harder to notice their struggles. Their special interests might also seem more typical or socially acceptable. With ADHD, girls are more likely to be seen as daydreamers or disorganized rather than hyperactive, leading people to overlook that they have a neurological condition. Because these signs are more subtle, women often don’t get diagnosed until much later in life, if at all. This delay or lack of diagnosis means they might not fully understand themselves or why they struggle, making it difficult for them to ask for the help they need. By raising awareness, dispelling common misconceptions, we can better support women facing these challenges. This not only enhances their personal well-being but also ensures that your organization is inclusive, improving employee engagement, retention, attraction, and overall productivity. We assist organizations of all sizes & events in becoming Neurospecial. Embracing NeuroSpecial practices goes beyond simply implementing a policy; it's about fostering a cultural shift within the organization through raising awareness, effective communication, and providing support. Through our advisory services, we assist organizations in making events, festivals, office spaces, and co-working environments more accommodating for women with autism or ADHD. We provide expert guidance on how to design inclusive spaces that consider the unique needs of neurodiverse individuals. We consult with organizations on implementing meaningful organizational change.

Supporting Girls with Autism During Exam Periods: A Balanced Approach After sharing strategies to help girls with ADHD thrive during exams, we felt it was equally important to provide a balanced view on supporting girls with autism through these challenging times. While both groups may benefit from similar support, there are key differences. Girls with ADHD often need help with planning, managing their workload, and regulating movement, as these areas can quickly become overwhelming without structured guidance. In contrast, girls with autism frequently have strong organizational skills, allowing them to plan effectively. However, as exams approach, they may experience intense anxiety, struggle with the unpredictability of exam day, and get “stuck” in hyperfocus, making it difficult to rest or remember to take breaks. These unique challenges require thoughtful support and tailored strategies. To learn more about how to help girls with autism feel prepared, resilient, and calm during exams, read our article below. #InclusionMatters #NeurodiversityAtWork #ParentingTips #SupportParents #Neurodiversity #DiversityEquityInclusion #InclusiveLeadership #MentalHealthAwareness #AutismAcceptance #InclusionFirst #DisabilityAwareness #SpecialNeedsParenting #InclusiveCulture #Neurodiverse #ADHDAwareness #ParentingSupport #InclusiveEducation #WomenInLeadership #WorkplaceInclusion #CommunitySupport

Welcome to our weekly article, where we share practical tips and strategies for supporting our daughters with ADHD. Whether it’s during exam time 📝 or daily studies 🗒 , these insights are designed to make learning smoother and more manageable for both parents and children. Today, we’re focusing on how a touch of nature 🍂 in your daughter’s study space can help her stay grounded, calm, and attentive. Studies show that natural elements, like green colours 🌿 , calming scents 🕯 , and indoor plants 🏵 , can significantly enhance focus, especially for children with ADHD. Here’s how you can easily incorporate these supportive elements: ☝🏻 Use green and blue hues: Soft green and blue tones are associated with calm and relaxation, helping to reduce mental fatigue. Consider adding a few accessories in these colours, or even painting an accent wall to create a restful atmosphere. ✌🏻 Introduce plants: Indoor plants, such as spider plants, peace lilies, or small succulents, improve air quality and create a soothing, welcoming environment. Involving her in choosing and caring for these plants can help her feel connected to her study space. 👉🏻 Soothing scents: Calming scents like lavender, chamomile, or light citrus can help her stay relaxed. Consider a subtle essential oil diffuser, but use it only when she finds it helpful, as strong scents can sometimes be distracting. These natural touches, along with your supportive guidance, create a study space where she can feel confident and focused. As you continue to tailor the environment and routines around her needs, remember that these small adjustments can make a big difference during high-pressure times like exams. 5 principles of positive psychology Authenticity 🦄 Being authentic in the workplace means showing up as your true self, which fosters trust and deeper connections with colleagues. When employees feel they can be authentic, they are more engaged and satisfied with their work. Encouraging authenticity allows individuals to leverage their unique perspectives, driving innovation and creativity. A workplace that values authenticity also supports mental well-being, reducing stress associated with trying to conform to external expectations. Motivation 👩🏻💻 Motivation in the workplace is often fuelled by a sense of purpose and alignment with personal and organizational values. When employees understand the “why” behind their tasks, they feel more inspired to contribute their best efforts. Positive reinforcement and recognition of achievements play a key role in maintaining high motivation levels. A motivated workforce leads to higher productivity, better collaboration, and greater job satisfaction. Strengths 💪🏻 Positive psychology in the workplace emphasizes identifying and leveraging individual strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. Employees who are encouraged to use their strengths are more likely to feel competent and fulfilled in their roles. Recognizing and applying diverse strengths within a team enhances problem-solving and overall performance. Focusing on strengths can also lead to higher engagement, as people tend to enjoy work they are naturally good at. Resilience 🌪 Resilience in the workplace refers to the ability to bounce back from challenges, adapt to change, and continue performing under pressure. Employees with high resilience are better equipped to handle setbacks and maintain their mental well-being during stressful situations. A resilient team fosters a positive, solution-focused culture, turning obstacles into opportunities for growth. Building resilience through supportive leadership and a positive work environment enhances long-term success and employee retention. #Leadership #InclusiveLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #LeadershipDevelopment #BusinessLeadership #InclusiveWorkplace #LeadersForChange #Empowerment #DiverseLeadership #TransformationalLeadership #EquityAndInclusion #LeadershipMatters #InclusionInBusiness #LeadWithPurpose #WomenInLeadership

Despite being autistic, I have been reflecting on my previous leadership experiences and realized that, in some instances, I was not as inclusive as I could have been. 🤔 ☝🏻 This reflection led me to understand the importance of stepping outside of our own lived experiences and viewing ourselves from a distance—something I regularly encourage senior managers to do during workshops. We all grow up with experiences and are often taught misconceptions that shape our biases. It can be challenging to peel back these biases, one layer at a time, but it’s a necessary process for true growth as an inclusive leader. I have decided to summarize some of the key learnings in this short article. #Inclusion #Neurodiversity #LeadershipDevelopment #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusiveLeadership #DEI #WomenInLeadership #InclusiveWorkplace #ADHDAwareness #LeadershipMatters

It took society 84 years to get here—and we're still only at the beginning. Visuals below 👇 to prove 🤔 In many parts of the world, we've made significant strides toward gender equality and inclusion. Yet, in other regions, women’s rights and basic freedoms are still not acknowledged in the same way. As we work in global organizations with colleagues from diverse cultures and backgrounds, it’s hard to fully grasp the reality that some still live without the rights and opportunities many of us take for granted. The rise of technology allows us to collaborate seamlessly across borders, but it also highlights the stark differences in how inclusion, diversity, and acceptance are understood and practiced globally. How long will it take before these values are embraced everywhere, and we can truly say that the world works together—not just virtually, but in a way that honours equality for all? 🤔 #Inclusion #Diversity #Equality #GlobalLeadership #WomenInLeadership #GenderEquality
