New Hospital Programme

Hospitals and Health Care

The biggest NHS hospital building programme in a generation, delivering world-class care and services for our patients.

About us

The New Hospital Programme is the biggest hospital building programme in a generation. It is a dramatic shift in the way we deliver major healthcare projects in England, building hospitals that will transform the health sector and set new standards for the way we build future social infrastructure. We will create world-class health facilities through innovation and collaboration, empowering clinical professionals to deliver the best possible care for patients. We are replacing outdated infrastructure with modern, innovative, and environmentally sustainable buildings to provide top-class healthcare services and facilities for patients, staff and local communities. Digital technology will change the way healthcare is delivered in these facilities. Smart technology will reduce basic and repetitive tasks and free up time for patient care. Our mission is to help NHS Trusts to provide high-quality, sustainable care for patients, deliver intelligent hospitals, develop national capability, and build better, build faster and build a sustainable legacy. Rather than treating each project as a standalone scheme, we will capture opportunities to standardise design and leverage scale to maximise effectiveness and efficiency. The New Hospital Programme is transformational and will set new standards for the commissioning of future social infrastructure.

  • In case you haven’t heard, it’s National Apprenticeship Week! (NAW)   NAW is part of the Department for Education’s ongoing #SkillsforLife campaign which is engaging young people, adult learners, and employers with government skills and training programmes, building the foundations for an enduring national capacity.   Louis Brown is an Apprentice Surveyor for the New Hospital Programme (NHP). Louis worked in the construction industry prior to starting his apprenticeship and was introduced to colleagues in construction management, who were supportive in signposting Louis to relevant apprenticeship schemes.   Louis said: “My main focus as an Apprentice Surveyor is to support the business with cost management of hospital designs. I'm really enjoying my role in the NHP and I’m grateful for the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the industry, whilst also undertaking a degree at university. By working alongside my degree, I can apply practical knowledge to my studies, and vice versa.   One of the biggest challenges has been the step up from college and balancing a busy job with studying, but I have a supportive working environment and excellent colleagues. Being able to earn whilst studying is also a massive benefit! I’m enjoying the journey and really looking forward to a career in the construction industry.”   There are all sorts of apprenticeships available in the NHS, whatever your experience or qualifications.   Search ‘NHS Apprenticeships’ to find out more.   https://lnkd.in/eDWcmQ6u   #NAW2025 #SkillsForLife #NHP #apprenticeships #learning #development #futureworkforce

  • The New Hospital Programme (NHP) has today launched the formal procurement process for its Hospital 2.0 Alliance framework. This multi-supplier framework agreement will be used by Trusts across the country to appoint Alliance partners, who will provide the detailed design, construction for future New Hospital Programme schemes. The Selection Questionnaire (SQ) process will run until early May 2025, when suppliers will be shortlisted. The tender process will run until Autumn 2025 with places on the framework expected to be awarded towards the end of the year. In addition, NHS England will launch its ProCure24 framework with Crown Commercial Service to support the wider NHS Estates and Facilities work beyond the New Hospital Programme. We’re excited to bring this to market in 2026. For more information, visit the CompeteFor website. https://lnkd.in/eBBZhDF9

  • We’re thrilled to be supporting National Apprenticeship Week!   This week, we will be shining a light on our inspirational apprentices gaining #SkillsForLife in the New Hospital Programme (NHP).   Gracie Quinn applied for a number of apprenticeship schemes, and successfully secured a role with NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group as part of the project support team in the NHP.   Since starting, Gracie achieved a Level 3 Business and Administration qualification, which has helped her to thrive in her current role at the North West Ambulance Service, as well as providing her with transferrable skills for her next role at the Integrated Care Board (ICB).   When asked what advice she would give to others who are thinking of applying for an apprenticeship role, Gracie said:   “Just go for it! Looking back, the opportunities provided by Royal Liverpool have really helped my career and given me invaluable insight and experience.   At first, I was hesitant and worried about balancing work and college each week, but my tutors were really supportive.”   The NHS is recruiting apprentices, please visit https://lnkd.in/eq2HHfnk to find out more and current opportunities   #NAW2025 #SkillsForLife #NHP #apprenticeships #learning #development #futureworkforce

  • On January 20th, the government confirmed funding and a realistic timetable to put the New Hospital Programme on track to deliver all its hospital projects. This provides certainty on the next steps for the New Hospital Programme.   As a consequence of this certainty the Infrastructure Projects Authority (IPA) has now assessed the New Hospital Programme to be rated Amber for delivery. This is significant progress.    Both this rating and the announcement puts the Programme on a firm footing with sustainable funding, so all the projects can be delivered, and give patients, Trusts, and stakeholders a realistic, deliverable timetable in which they can have confidence. NHP will continue to work with local NHS organisations to deliver improvements at pace. https://lnkd.in/erAN7Gin

  • We are shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Lindsay McGibbon. Lindsay was instrumental in the delivery of the recently opened Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, offering a wealth of experience and knowledge of the construction sector that supported NHP and health service ambitions. On behalf of the New Hospital Programme, our thoughts are with Lindsay’s friends and family. Doug Baldock, Executive Director at NHP shares his memories of Lindsay: ‘I first met Lindsay working for Laing O’Rourke on site at Brighton 3Ts, a scheme that the NHP inherited when the programme launched. More recently, Lindsay was an instrumental part in the build of the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. His skill and knowledge meant that he gravitated toward the difficult projects and his professionalism and experience in the sector is something that we all benefitted from. Lindsay’s sharing of lessons learned will inform our Hospital 2.0 blueprint. Lindsay will be sorely missed by the industry and the healthcare sector, but his legacy will be felt in the new hospital sites across the country.’

  • A remarkable milestone for a site that, when complete, will support patients through the advancement of eye health.    A huge achievement thanks to co-design and partnership on all levels. Congratulations to all involved. #TeamNHP #thepowerofpartnership #codesign #morethanahospital #buildingthefuture #eyehealth

  • A warm welcome to Pia P.:    I recently joined the New Hospital Programme (NHP) working with the Scheme Engagement team as their Project Coordinator, focusing on Programme Delivery.    Having been part of the Project Management Office (PMO) for 18 years, project management, business development and my passion for delivering successful outcomes has given me the confidence to walk through different sectors in my career, such as banking, government, architecture and rail construction, marketing, PR and events.     My skills have enabled me to challenge myself professionally and personally, whether it be technically, methodically or analytically. I have developed a deep understanding of the convolutions involved in managing complex projects. This is what compelled me to jump into the works of NHP.     Before NHP, I finished up working on the London Bridge station refurbishments with Transport For London (TFL) where I managed budgets, project planning, supplier & contractor management, as well as quality assurance (QA) checks and visits.  Outside of work, my interests include Spinning and lifting small weights. I also enjoy swimming, mountain trekking, running long distances, calisthenics and Bikram yoga.    Each year, I like to fundraise for causes dear to me, such as running 10k in the dark for Collaborative Cures, completing solo 100k runs for MNDA, and selling baked goods for Sightsavers and Macmillan Cancer support.    I look forward to getting stuck into my new role and working with my new colleagues in the NHP.    #NHP #workforce #oneteam
