Eating Disorders Awareness Week is a crucial time to raise awareness of eating disorders, challenge stigma, and ensure young people can access the support they need. Eating disorders can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age or background, and that early intervention is key to recovery. This week, we encourage open conversations about body image, self-esteem, and mental health while promoting a supportive environment where young people feel safe seeking help. Whether you are struggling yourself or are worried about a friend, know that support is available. Here are some resources for support: Beat Eating Disorders (beateatingdisorders.org.uk) – The UK’s leading eating disorder charity offering helplines, online support groups, and guidance. YoungMinds (youngminds.org.uk) – Mental health support for young people, including resources on body image and eating disorders. NHS (nhs.uk/mental-health/) – Information on symptoms, treatment options, and how to seek professional help. Mind (mind.org.uk) – Support for mental health challenges, including eating disorders. The Mix (themix.org.uk) – Free, confidential support for under-25s, including helplines and chat services. The future of youth work?   The National Youth Agency (NYA) reports that since 2024, 160 apprentices have enrolled on Level 3 and Level 6 Youth Work apprenticeships. This is crucial as the sector has lost approximately 4,500 youth workers since 2011 due to significant funding cuts. The NYA is also consulting on a new qualification framework to attract individuals with the skills and passion for supporting young people to join our rewarding profession.    Without the next generation of youth workers, like our very own Jamie – who is currently in the second year of the BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work (Integrated Degree Apprenticeship) at Sunderland University – young people will inevitably lose out.    Read more about the importance of the opportunity for development through apprenticeships here: https://lnkd.in/ei6zKeD4   Find out more about the course at Sunderland University here: https://lnkd.in/eRV6JkHe #neyouth #youngpeople #nationalapprenticeshipsweek
