Eating Disorders Awareness Week is a crucial time to raise awareness of eating disorders, challenge stigma, and ensure young people can access the support they need. Eating disorders can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age or background, and that early intervention is key to recovery. This week, we encourage open conversations about body image, self-esteem, and mental health while promoting a supportive environment where young people feel safe seeking help. Whether you are struggling yourself or are worried about a friend, know that support is available. Here are some resources for support: Beat Eating Disorders (beateatingdisorders.org.uk) – The UK’s leading eating disorder charity offering helplines, online support groups, and guidance. YoungMinds (youngminds.org.uk) – Mental health support for young people, including resources on body image and eating disorders. NHS (nhs.uk/mental-health/) – Information on symptoms, treatment options, and how to seek professional help. Mind (mind.org.uk) – Support for mental health challenges, including eating disorders. The Mix (themix.org.uk) – Free, confidential support for under-25s, including helplines and chat services. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out—help is available, and recovery is possible. 💙 #neyouth #youngpeople #eatingdisordersawarenessweek

The future of youth work? The National Youth Agency (NYA) reports that since 2024, 160 apprentices have enrolled on Level 3 and Level 6 Youth Work apprenticeships. This is crucial as the sector has lost approximately 4,500 youth workers since 2011 due to significant funding cuts. The NYA is also consulting on a new qualification framework to attract individuals with the skills and passion for supporting young people to join our rewarding profession. Without the next generation of youth workers, like our very own Jamie – who is currently in the second year of the BA (Hons) Community and Youth Work (Integrated Degree Apprenticeship) at Sunderland University – young people will inevitably lose out. Read more about the importance of the opportunity for development through apprenticeships here: https://lnkd.in/ei6zKeD4 Find out more about the course at Sunderland University here: https://lnkd.in/eRV6JkHe #neyouth #youngpeople #nationalapprenticeshipsweek

Some excellent online resources, developed for and by young people:
Big shoutout 📢 and request for help from my network here. In the last two weeks we’ve launched two fantastic online experiences - a game and interactive course, both aimed at 15-17 year olds to build skills, confidence, agency and understanding of others… The best thing is they are really good because they’ve been CO-CREATED at every stage with young people With NCS - National Citizen Service Trust wrapping up next month, we don’t have marketing budgets to get them directly to the audience so we’re using networks and asking people to spread word of mouth. That’s where you come in, can you help share them with young people? Here’s the info and links PRELOADED have created a really addictive game called NEOHAVEN NOODLES where players run their own noodle shop for 10 days. It builds financial literacy and also empathy, asking tough questions about how much to help others against demands to balance the books https://lnkd.in/e8Myn_ZQ Bite Back have co-created blogs, quizzes and videos so that young people will have their eyes opened to how the food system is rigged against their health— and how they have the power to fuel a healthier future https://lnkd.in/eSHqdnHS Tagging some fab people incase you can support, feel free to tag others Cat Crowther Laura Dempsey Libby Rhodes David Ivell Amanda Timberg Bex Pink Lara Burns Dan Sutch David Scurr And shout-out also to Chris Brown Samantha Roland-Jones Simon Reid for leading this from our side!
