  • Celebrating the young people shaping our industry’s future this National Apprenticeship Week.💡 Meet our apprentice planner, Cam Wood, who is in the first of a two-year Masters in Urban Planning (MSc Urban Planning (DA)) course (Level 7) at Sheffield Hallam University. 📚 Cam’s journey has been included as part of Destination Chesterfield’s round-up of apprenticeships across the region, focusing on why he became an apprentice planner and how it has helped develop his skills and knowledge. 🗣 “I chose the apprenticeship route because it provides an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience in my role while complementing my studies, ultimately enhancing my overall understanding of planning. “The apprenticeship enables me to learn at an academic level whilst putting my newly acquired knowledge into practice at the same time.” The article also features comments from our associate director Sarah Wills on why apprenticeships are important not only to nineteen47, but also the wider planning and property profession. We accomplish more by working together... and that's precisely what our planning team did last week when they came together in Sheffield to review recent planning updates and what that means for our clients.   Our team has a rich and varied experience of working with LPA's across the midlands and the north of England and we continue to discuss the practical implications of the updated NPPF and related housing land supply positions with policy and DM officers. We have also been tracking the number Grey Belt decisions that continue to emerge. If this is relevant to you, please reach out to our team and we would be happy to share our knowledge. After exercising our mental capacity, it was time for some fresh air and a friendly (at times!) game of Padel followed by tennis with our very own coach Cam Wood, to decide once and for all whether the traditional lawn game or the new smaller court contender would win out. No overall agreement, other than that action photos should not be shared on LinkedIn (so the stock image will have to do).   #team #planning #newdevelopment

  • From Vision to Reality It’s always incredibly rewarding to see projects we’ve been a part of come to life. This particular development on the outskirts of York which we worked on with Architects ByOthers is a fantastic example of what can be achieved with a clear strategy, determination, and the right expertise. Our team at nineteen47 was privileged to support our client in securing planning permission for a new dwelling within the Green Belt. By leveraging permitted development rights, establishing a solid fallback position, and executing a carefully planned three-stage planning strategy, we were able to help turn a dream into reality. Achieving this outcome required perseverance, creativity, and a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in Green Belt development—but the result speaks for itself. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this project a success! #GreenBeltDevelopment #PlanningStrategy #nineteen47 #PermittedDevelopment #ArchitectureAndPlanning

Supporting the Government's drive towards new housing delivery, we are delighted that on behalf of honey and HARRON HOMES LIMITED, we have successfully secured Reserved Matters consent for 315 dwellings at Upperthorpe Road, Killamarsh. Following the grant of outline permission on appeal in June 2023, our planning, design and visuals team were engaged to support the reserved matters application. Given the controversial nature of the scheme historically, our team worked closely with North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC) to provide a high quality development, which meets the design principles established under the outline permission. We are particularly proud of the collaborative approach to secure this permission under delegated powers. A huge thank you to all the team involved and the support from consultants including FDA Landscape. It’s been a pleasure working alongside such a talented project team, and we’re excited to see this fantastic development come to life! • It is timely that a decision on this scheme was issued on the morning of the publication of the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) 2024, which aims to address housing delivery challenges and streamline the planning system.   The site, allocated for strategic housing in the adopted Local Plan, is significant for housing delivery in Derbyshire Dales and for the Ashbourne community. The reserved matters consent will deliver the first residential phase of the wider Ashbourne Airfield allocation and marks an important stage for the purposeful reuse of this brownfield site, helping to unlock and facilitate delivery of future phases.   The planning, urban design, and visual teams at nineteen47 became involved in the site earlier this year, following previous refusals. After guiding the application through Design Review with invaluable input from Dr. Stefan Kruczkowski, the team developed a scheme that responds positively to the historic layout of the former airfield through the retention of the former runway corridor. Through strong collaboration with the Local Planning Authority, the scheme received near-unanimous support at committee, with members commending the team for addressing previous reasons for refusal and creating a design that will 'enhance Ashbourne' and deliver 'a new place with a distinctive character.'   The government's firm stance in the recent NPPF publication underscores the urgent need to deliver more housing and create communities where people can thrive. We extend our thanks and admiration to the dedicated team at David Wilson Homes for this pre-Christmas success, which will deliver these aims in abundance.   Our gratitude also goes to the wider project team for their valuable contributions, including Golby + Luck Ltd, FPCR, BWB Consulting Ltd, Urban Design Doctor, Environmental Economics Ltd, Development Design Solutions, MEC Consulting Group and of course the whole extended team at David Wilson Homes, Barratt Redrow.

I am delighted to announce that, following a recent planning committee meeting and a resolution to grant permission, David Wilson Homes East Midlands has today secured planning permission for 297 new homes in Ashbourne. This milestone follows a comprehensive period of proactive collaboration with Derbyshire Dales District Council and will contribute much-needed high-quality housing to the area. The new development will deliver David Wilson Homes and Barratt Homes brands, include 10.7% affordable housing and thoughtfully integrates the historical character of the former airfield. A key feature of the scheme is the preservation of the former runway corridor, which will serve as a distinctive linear public open space, complete with heritage-inspired play areas. An enormous thank you to our dedicated internal project team for their hard work, and our consultant team, in particular Sarah Wills, Carl Stott MRTPI and Richard Walshaw of nineteen47 Ltd. for their invaluable planning and design expertise throughout this process.
