COAST: "What is 'Bird Island'? 🐦 The rock structure you can see on Cromer Beach is called a rock berm, and this one is serving a unique purpose. Now nicknamed 'Bird Island', the rock structure is used to break up wave energy before it hits the rocks against the sea wall. Breaking the energy of the waves earlier helps to protect the new access ramp from the force of the waves and the cobbles carried in it. It also acts as a wave break for the small section of seawall that doesn't have rock armour. View our FAQs: bit.ly/CromerSchemeFAQs
