Yesterday, we collaborated with other coastal land managers to undertake a conflict resolution course. We work in an interesting space where we do not have enforcement authority; the best we can do is request that stakeholders comply with Foreshore/Camping regulations and Dog regulations. Combined with the fact that most employees in this field have Environmental Science backgrounds and little formal customer service training, it means there is a knowledge gap in how to handle tense situations. It is important that we address the major WHS risk of public threat from adverse encounters with stakeholders, and the engagement skills and de-escalation techniques we learnt today will be a significant step forward in mitigating these risks. Ultimately, this will lead to a safer workplace for employees and safer public areas for the wider community. As a smaller organisation, it is always great catching up with the crew from Balnarring, Dromana, and Capel Sound Foreshore CoMs. We face identical issues and these intentional opportunities for mutual learning mean we aren't duplicating our efforts (as often). Hi, Trust & Safety network! I’m excited to share a side project I’m working on a Global Job Board for Trust and Safety professionals. Join me! Why am I doing this? During my last period of unemployment, I had a tough time finding new job roles. I had to navigate multiple websites, job aggregators, and job boards. I wasted a lot of time filtering and finding the right opportunities. Often, I encountered expired or filled jobs. Jobs advertised as “remote” were often actually hybrid or location-specific. There is no clear categorisation of our roles, and even the naming differs between organisations, due to the novel nature of our profiles. As a result, I decided to turn this frustration into something potentially useful for our community of professionals. I want to offer a place where you can easily find fresh opportunities that are a good fit for you. Sign up at trustandsafetyjobs.com and follow the page to stay informed about the launch. What do you think? Please share your feedback about this idea (you can DM me, but let’s aim to keep a public conversation going!). This will give me an idea of how many of us have faced similar challenges. Help me reach more people by sharing this post or commenting on it. Your support is massively appreciated! https://lnkd.in/dJRGknRU

#WorldHealthDay #CleanWater #Water #WithTheCommunity in #Mozambique #Sustainability with the team of Médecins Sans Frontières (Switzerland): In Mogovolas district, where the prevalence of Bilharzia is notably high, access to clean water becomes a genuine suffering. Villagers are compelled to resort to unsafe water sources to meet their basic needs, thus exposing themselves to this debilitating disease contamination and other waterborne infections, which leaves many vulnerable to prolonge health complicatons. This tough situation has pushed our team to urgently implement #sustainable solutions aiming at providing access to clean and safe water through the establishment of six protected wells in this district, coupled with community awareness initiatives. These activities are not only addressing the immediate health concerns associated with Bilharzia[ and other waterborne diseases but also laying the groundwork for long-term community response to mitigate these infectious diseases.
Meet Castro Pereira is our Water and Sanitation Technician. He’s in charge of ensuring that each protected well becomes a lifeline for approximately 350 households, carefully gauging the flow to meet their needs. But his task doesn't stop there. With thorough attention to the details, he took water samples for evaluation by the authorities. The results? Laboratory analysis revealed that the water from these wells is not just clean but certified safe for consumption.

Did you know new and young workers are nearly 3X more likely than anyone else on your staff to be injured in the workplace in their first 90 days? Amidst learning new tasks and meeting new colleagues, it’s crucial not to overlook one of the most important aspects of any workplace: health and safety training. 🔹 Why It Matters: Protects Employees: Proper training ensures that new workers understand how to perform their tasks safely, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries. Promotes a Safety Culture: When safety is prioritized from day one, it fosters a culture where everyone is committed to maintaining a safe work environment. Compliance and Legal Requirements: Many industries have strict regulations regarding workplace safety. Comprehensive training helps ensure compliance, avoiding potential legal issues and fines. Boosts Confidence, Quality and Productivity: Knowing how to handle equipment and emergency situations confidently can significantly enhance a new worker’s productivity and morale. 🔹 Key Components of Effective Training: Hands-On Practice: Practical, hands-on training helps workers understand and remember safety procedures better. Regular Updates: Safety protocols can change. Regular refresher courses ensure that all employees are up-to-date with the latest safety standards. Clear Communication: Training should be clear and understandable, with opportunities for new workers to ask questions and clarify questions. How training is conducted and enforced is paramount to any safety culture. Investing in thorough health and safety training is not just about compliance—it’s about caring for your team and building a resilient, proactive workforce. #safein24 #WorkplaceSafety #HealthAndSafety #NewEmployees #SafetyTraining #EmployeeWellbeing

I saw a post from a long time friend, colleague, ally & mentor (you don’t get all of those often, and in this case it’s once in a career) about being “busy” vs being “productive”. It really hit home with a recent experience with me and took me back through many similar experiences during my two-decade career in safety and health. There are times when you will be judged by things that are beyond your control. You will be judged by perception based on opinion, not fact. You will, in all probability, be judged not by metrics, but by what someone else thinks about you. But you will have moments that no one else sees. Moments when you break through to individuals. When you surprise them. When they see that you truly care. These are the defining moments of your career as a safety professional. The rest is just noise.
