There are two main types of Diabetes:
-Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes is most commonly diagnosed in childhood and is a result of the body being unable to make a hormone called insulin. Insulin is vital for helping the body use glucose in the blood as fuel. Without insulin, the glucose stays in the bloodstream and can cause damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and feet.
In Type 2 Diabetes, the body still makes insulin, but either too little is made or the insulin that is produced doesn’t work properly.

This month is Cholesterol Awareness Month. Northern Clinics are delighted to be carrying out our health screening services with dillonbassGreg Elliott. Early detection and intervention can be very important for so many conditions especially for cholesterol and stroke risk. Do you have a new or changing lesion/mole that you are worried about?
Northern Clinics are now partnering with ScreenCancer UK to offer mole scanning services in our Craigavon and Holywood clinics.
ScreenCancer UK recommends checking your moles every 3-6 months and take note of any changes.
You can also use the ABCDE rule to check your moles!
- Asymmetry. An irregular shape.
- Borders. Look for unclear, irregular or ragged borders.
- Colour. Changes in colour especially black, blue or an uneven colour.
- Diameter. More than 5-6mm in diameter and changes in size.
- Evolving. Changes in shape, size, colour, itching or bleeding of an existing mole, or if a new mole appears.
