Last week, we brought our #SPARK cohort back together for an in person learning day in Sheffield, hosted at the iconic Showroom Cinema. The day started with an inspirational keynote from our invited guest speaker, Matthew Gordon OBE, CEO of Spectra, who shared invaluable insights on mastering pain and utilising it for good. A reminder that the challenges we face can fuel us to create positive change, not just for ourselves but for our communities and the world at large. The afternoon followed with a workshop on Theory of Change, led by Ruth Ibegbuna, with participants beginning to write their own. The energy in the room was one of quiet focus as ideas and strategies flowed. We delved into problem statements, ways to tackle current inequalities, build sustainable, impactful solutions and move us closer to our vision for a better future. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that” - Martin Luther King Jr #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #youthleadership #changemakers #changemaking #NorthernSoul #self #soul #society #community #makeadifference

Non-profit Organizations
We support and celebrate the people driving positive social change across the North and beyond.
About us
Northern Soul Consultancy CIC was born as an extension of the work of Ruth Ibegbuna, our Founder, back in 2018, to provide training, development and support to those seeking greater levels of social justice, and a better life for themselves and others. We’re a non-profit organisation, with a simple concept: support and celebrate the people driving positive social change across the North and beyond. Our work both historically and planned, is to support those working at the grassroots of social change. To give them the development and knowledge they need to ensure they're better resourced to create the impact they need to build their lives and communities so everyone can thrive. We also work proactively to deliver training around burnout and better self-care, for those at the forefront of leading community change. We work as a peer support service using our experiences and our partnerships with others to develop and run programmes, masterclasses, workshops, administrative support, networking & mentoring opportunities for grassroots organisations/people to champion Northern skills, ambition and unwavering commitment to bring about positive change.

💫Good news alert 💫 Today, the wonderful team at Rekindle Foundation and Rekindle Supplementary School launched Rekindle's Youth-Led Research projects. They need your voice, so check out their below post and get involved 💪 #RekindleResearch #EducationForAll #YouthLed #RekindleFoundation
🚀 Launching Youth-Led Research for Systemic Change! 🎉 In the Spring of 2024, Rekindle began its search for six passionate 16-24 year olds to lead youth-focused research on self-chosen topics aimed at driving equality-focused change in the education system. Today, we’re thrilled to officially launch their research projects! 🎥 But we need YOUR voice! Our researchers are tackling some of the biggest questions in education, but they can’t do it alone. This project is about co-creation, and we want to hear from educators, researchers, policymakers, and young people themselves. 📢 Watch our Youth-Led Research Launch Video to learn more. 📍 How can you get involved? ✅ Share your insights in the comments. ✅ Spread the word—your engagement strengthens the impact of this research. ✅ If you work in education, research, or policy, let’s connect! #RekindleResearch #EducationForAll #YouthLed #RekindleFoundation Rekindle Foundation

Especially in today’s pushback climate, it was good to see the Centre for Charity Effectiveness (CCE) doing what it does best - being the voice of responsible #leadership. Here we are at the Paul Streets "Perspectives in Leadership for an #Inclusive Sector" event. Paul was joined by Louise Harris, COO at Crisis, Kamran Mallick, CEO at Disability Rights UK and Ruth Ibegbuna, Founder and CEO at the Rekindle Supplementary School. Paul, Louise, Kamran and Ruth did a great job in navigating a topic facing new heights of #complexity. It was reassuring to hear that these conversations must not regress, but progress, now more than ever. The principle “Nothing about us without us” became a key theme. Inclusion must ensure systems are there for everyone from the very start. If they are not then take stock and learn, and embrace some responsibility. I couldn't help but sense though both apprehension and hope in the room, with 80 charity leaders. Apprehension that the British civic sector might regress, and lose its credibility and independence. But hope too that the sector will retain its spirit and will instead embrace progress, and renew its journey of courage on behalf of the especially silenced communities it serves. This event has given me some #hope. For that I’m grateful to Alex Skailes and Paul and their stellar panelists - and all of our attendees - thank you for coming to Bayes Business School. Last week, our founder, Ruth Ibegbuna, who also serves as the Founder & CEO of Rekindle Supplementary School and The Roots Programme, delivered an impactful keynote address: "In My Shoes" – Challenging Stigma & Reframing Narratives. Her presentation took place at the Breaking Cycles of Poverty Conference, hosted by Community Renewal Lifting Neighbourhoods Together (CR:LNT). During her keynote, Ruth spoke about the need to move away from deficit-based narratives when discussing young people living in poverty. She argued against framing working-class or 'left behind' communities solely through the lens of struggle alone. Ruth highlighted the significance of pride, potential, and hope, and the need to ensure that young people feel valued and empowered within their communities and the places they call home. Massive thanks to Community Renewal Trust.
Breaking Cycles of Poverty Conference 30/1/25 - Huge thanks to Ruth Ibegbuna , Cormac Russell and all the speakers, panellists and delegates who joined the discussion at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh last week.

Our wonderful Anne Marie Croal, had a great day at the SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) Gathering yesterday. Attending brilliant sessions led by YMCA Scotland and Social Enterprise Scotland. She was representing both us and our ace friends at Rekindle Supplementary School. Thanks so much to SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) for organising such a vital, engaging event, where there was lots of knowledge exchange, learning to be had and connections to be made. All the best for today. #SCVOGathering #SCVO #VoluntarySector #SocialEnterprises #PositiveSocialImpact #Scotland
On a very wet and windy day in Edinburgh, it was great to meet up with friends old and new, for warm chat and great connections. SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) hosted the Gathering at the EICC today and it runs again tomorrow. I managed to catch up with 2027 pals Lauren Arthur and Jane Bruce as well as being guided as always by my wonderful mentor and friend Maureen. I attended brilliant sessions led by YMCA Scotland and Social Enterprise Scotland. I made a lot of great connections for both Northern Soul C.I.C. and ReKindle School and I look forward to continuing these conversations and making further connections soon.
