The Rise of Robusta: A Sustainable Solution for the Future of Coffee As the global coffee industry continues to grapple with the challenges of climate change, deforestation, and resource scarcity, the spotlight is increasingly turning to robusta coffee as a key player in creating a more sustainable future. Traditionally overshadowed by arabica, robusta is now gaining attention not just for its resilience but also for its potential to reshape coffee production with environmental benefits. One of the regions at the forefront of this movement is Rondonia, Brazil, where farmers have embraced innovative farming techniques that integrate robusta coffee cultivation with the preservation of local ecosystems. These systems minimise deforestation, reduce the need for pesticides, and encourage biodiversity by planting coffee alongside other native crops and trees. Such practices are not only helping to safeguard the Amazon rainforest but are also improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. Unlike arabica, which often requires high altitudes and cooler climates, robusta thrives in lower-altitude, warmer environments. This adaptability makes it a crucial alternative in areas vulnerable to the effects of global warming. Furthermore, its natural disease resistance and lower dependency on chemical inputs reduce the environmental footprint of its cultivation. Robusta’s potential extends beyond sustainability. Its bold flavour, thick crema, and high caffeine content make it ideal for espresso and bean-to-cup systems, offering a versatile option for offices, hospitality venues, and coffee enthusiasts alike. With specialty coffee roasters now exploring robusta’s complex flavour profiles, it’s clear that the once-dismissed bean is earning its place in the spotlight. Some of you might recall my post from earlier this year when I had the privilege of visiting the Brazilian Embassy and experiencing Amazon Robusta from Rondonia for the first time. I was genuinely amazed by the flavour profiles—bold, complex, and entirely unexpected. To celebrate this growing movement, Notes Coffee Roasters is hosting an exclusive event on 5th December at our Angel Court location, featuring Amazon Robusta from Rondonia. Join us for an afternoon of tastings, insights from growers and dignitaries, and a culinary journey led by MasterChef finalist Luciana Berry. If you’re interested in attending and experiencing the future of sustainable coffee, DM me for an invitation—spaces are limited! What are your thoughts on the future of robusta in specialty coffee? Drop your comments below. #Sustainability #RobustaCoffee #AmazonRobusta #CoffeeInnovation #Rondonia #NotesCoffee #BetterCoffee

🌟 Celebrating the remarkable work of Behind The Leaf (BTL) in Myanmar's Shan State! 🌟 Myanmar is one of the most incredible countries I've sourced coffee from. Since my visit in 2020, many things have changed, but the quality of the work and coffee remains remarkable. BTL is transforming lives in the Pa-O community, empowering 50 women with stable incomes, valuable skills, and a supportive network. These women are gaining financial independence, confidence, and leadership skills, moving from mere survival to thriving and shaping their futures. "The Fruit Hidden behind the Leaf"- This motto reflects the specialty-grade coffee and the hidden potential within the Pa-O people, now recognized globally for their hard work and talent. 📦 Exciting News! 📦 We've purchased another container with more than 15 different coffees from Myanmar this year. Thanks to Melaine Edwards and her dedicated team, these speciality-grade coffees are on their way to the UK, and we can't wait to share them with you! By partnering with BTL, we support these women and champion their journey towards a brighter future. Stay tuned for updates on our latest Myanmar coffee arrivals!

🌟Taste and Feel Rondônia, Amazon Robusta🌟 Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a remarkable event organized by the Rondônia Government at the Brazilian Embassy, thanks to an invitation from Juan Travain de Souza of Caferon. The event was led by Governor Marcos Rocha, alongside Agriculture Secretary Luiz Paulo and former Foreign Minister, now Ambassador of Brazil to the UK, Antônio Patriota. The highlight was an in-depth roundtable on Amazon Robusta coffee, featuring collaborative insights from Enrique Alves, an agronomist from Embrapa and Fabiana Carvalho, a neuroscientist and renowned coffee collaborator who introduced the Robusta Tasting Wheel. We explored the significant impact of regenerative coffee cultivation in reducing deforestation, increasing production on smaller land footprints, and benefiting 17,000 small coffee farming families. The session concluded with a captivating tasting of six different Robusta processes, organized by Notes Coffee Roasters the first UK roastery to believe in and bring this beautiful project to Great Britain. The experience was mind-blowing, and we were honored by the presence of Edgar Bressani, a charismatic global ambassador for Amazon Robusta. Being the first to commercialize Amazon Robusta in the UK is immensely rewarding. We eagerly anticipate showcasing the potential of this exceptional coffee and the vibrant region of Rondônia, Brazil. #AmazonRobusta #SustainableCoffee #Rondônia #BrazilianCoffee #CoffeeInnovation #RegenerativeAgriculture #EMBRAPA #Neuroscience #CoffeeTasting #NotesRoastery #UKCoffee #CoffeeCommunity

Building Partnerships for a Sustainable Coffee Future At Notes Coffee Roasters, we always encourage our partners and clients to join us on origin trips. Understanding the roots of our work is key to moving towards a coffee market focused on regenerative practices and sustainability. Facing the challenges in origin countries brings our clients closer to reality and fosters a deeper appreciation for the entire coffee supply chain. This week, our Co-founder and Head of Coffee, Fabio Ferreira had the pleasure of taking Vasily, the owner of VAXX COFFEE, on an incredible journey to Colombia. VAXX is one of our biggest clients in the wholesale sector, and Vasiliy's participation was invaluable. The education and experiences gained during this trip were priceless, providing Vasiliy with a firsthand understanding of the efforts and dedication behind every cup of coffee. We believe that such partnerships are essential for driving positive change in the coffee industry. By working closely with our clients and bringing them to the origins, we can collectively focus on sustainability and support the communities that make our coffee exceptional. #Sustainability #CoffeePartnerships #SpecialtyCoffee #ColombianCoffee #RegenerativePractices #DirectTrade
