What's next for us? We're ready to deliver even more. We will continue to develop as the expert one stop shop for nuclear waste management and disposal, safely and efficiently operating our low level waste repository site. Continuing the momentum of the GDF programme and enabling even more collaboration to harness technologies and innovations for the management of nuclear waste.
Over the last year, there's been positive work at real pace in delivering a Geological Disposal Facility, which is one of the largest environmental protection programmes in the UK. We're reusing or recycling more waste than ever before. In fact, 98% of waste was diverted from disposal at the low level waste Repository site, saving the taxpayer nearly 60 million pounds this year alone.

Viewpoint: Different countries planning the safe, permanent disposal of nuclear waste in geological repositories gain in a number of ways from sharing experiences and learning from each other, says Neil Hyatt, chief scientific advisor to the UK's Nuclear Waste Services. As he puts it: "When you consider we’ve only been on the planet for 300,000 years, you get a sense of the enormity of our work. Let’s unwrap some examples of how we work in partnership across our group of organisations to achieve our fantastic outcomes: - 2024 has seen a record annual intake of graduates from across the group - Nuclear Transport Solutions, Nuclear Restoration Services and Nuclear Waste Services worked together to ship 1,000 drums of waste from our Winfrith site for safe disposal - Nuclear Restoration Services and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority unveiled plans to work with local partners to develop Chapelcross into a Green Energy Hub that will drive economic growth in the local community Stay tuned.
